Retrospect 11 damaging tape drives?

Recommended Posts

I have one LTO-5 drive (HP Ultrium) and two LTO-4 tape drives (HP Ultrium 1760 SAS). Shortly after upgrading to Retrospect 11 both LTO-4's refuse to eject the last cartridge used. I have a suspicion that Retrospect 11 somehow caused this. Anyone else seen this happen?

Retrospect does not have the ability to "damage a tape drive".

If the device is not ejecting the media try the following:

1) Stop the Retrospect Engine from system preferences

2) Go to the LCD on the library and try ejecting the tape using the hardware eject options. If this is not a library, just try the eject button.

If this still does not work, try to power cycle the tape device and try the eject again.

If the tape still will not eject, it could be due to a damaged tape, tape that is physically stuck or other hardware issue. You will want to contact the hardware vendor for help ejecting the media.

yea, tried all that, tapes won't come out. I'm just suspicious that not one but two drives failed within a week of each other and right after upgrading.

Nothing tape library or tape drive related changed in this version of Retrospect.

If the Retrospect Engine is not running, Retrospect is no longer communicating with the tape drive and all tape device controls are managed by the hardware. I would contact the hardware vendor for eject suggestions.
