Recognizing data on new drive

Recommended Posts

I am using Retrospect 6.0 on an IMAC and backup to a firewire external HD. I want to move my Itunes onto another firewire external HD to get the files off the IMAC. Then when backing up I will want retrospect to backup the data on the new storage device even though it is the same data as previously on the IMAC. Will Retrospect recognize that? Or what do I have to do to prevent Retrospect from backing the Itunes files twice?

Provided the two drives (internal and external) has the same file system (Mac OS Extended (Journalled)) and is used by the same OS, Retrospect will automatically recognize the files as already backed up.

If you don't have the same file system AND the same OS, then some metadata will be different and Retrospect will backup the files again.

Please update to 6.1 at least.
