Hello,

We have Restrospect Disk-to-Disk with no additional licenses (in particular we don't have the SQL Server backup license or the Open File backup license).

We have TFS and Sharepoint on our server.  When backing up, we receive the *File "pathtofile": can't read, error -1020 ( sharing violation) error on all the TFS and Sharepoint SQL database files (mdf and ldf files).

I'm completely new in both Retrospect and the inner workings of TFS/Sharepoint SQL databases, so I am lost on why these are not getting backed up (especially since I hardly know how the databases work).  Is it because I need the SQL Server Retrospect license?  Is it because I the files are open (the database is active)?  Can I avoid buying any licenses (e.g. do I just need to shutdown the SQL server process during backup)?

Thank you in advance, and let me know if any additional information would be useful in troubleshooting this issue.

Yes, the files are open by the database, so can't be read by any other software.

Your best option is to schedule dumping the database contents to a file and backup that file. We do that every day an hour or so prior to the Retrospect schedule.

(I don't know how creating the dump file is done, it was set up by a former employee.)
