jolejeune
We're running a Mac Retrospect Multi Server [v 9.0.2 (107)] and experiencing a permanent error with a specific folder from a Mac client . This Mountain Lion Mac client is running Retrospect client 10.1.0.221 . The Retrospect log is always reporting the following error message : - 23/04/13 21:12:24: Copying BVDE HD on BVDE Scanning incomplete, error -1010 ( API request bad) The "BVDE HD" folder on the client is a huge folder (around 170 GB), but we have other Mac clients with similar amount of data backed-up without any trouble. Other source folders from the same Mac client are also backed-up without any problem. Checking the client Mac disk with "Disk Utility" and "Disk Warrior" does not report any error. Any clue or suggestion ? Many thanks in advance Jo Lejeune
Lennart_T
Try a safe boot, then boot normally before trying again. http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1564?viewlocale=en_US http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1455 When scanning, the amount of files is of interest, not the number of bytes. So, how many files does the folder contain?
jolejeune
The folder contains 56910 files. I did a safe boot and I'm waiting for the next backup event (at friday night) to see if this will change anything.
jolejeune
The safe boot didn't cure the problem. The backup of the folder (which contains almost 57000 files) always end up with the (in)famous error message : Scanning incomplete, error -1010 ( API request bad)
Lennart_T
Does the folder contain 57000 files with no sub-folders? Or is the total 57000 including all sub-folders? How many files are there in the (sub-)folder with the most number of files?
jolejeune
No. This is a large files/folders hierarchy. In order to track down the actual number of files per folder, I need to apply a script to the whole hierarchy. Is there a Retrospect software limit regarding the maximum files found in one particular folder ?
Lennart_T
Is there a Retrospect software limit regarding the maximum files found in one particular folder ? Not that I'm aware of.It's just a generally bad idea to have so many files in one folder. But since you don't, that should be fine. Create favorite folders inside the "big" folder and back them up one by one to narrow the problem down.
bdunagan
The most common reasons for the -1010 error are anti-virus software or a faulty disk. As you checked the disks, you should contact our support team (http://retrospect.com/support/phone), and they can walk you through turning up the logging level. Lennart makes a good point to try a smaller subset of the file hierarchy, but if the root case is a specific file or folder, logging will be the quickest way to identify it.
