Retrospect Express HD 2.5

I've recently bought two off Windows 8 lap tops. The Retrospect software did not install, although the Iomega storage manager did. I can view the hard drive in devices but it indicates unavailable. Ideally I could do with a updated version of Express, alternatively is there a way to make the hard drive available & I could resort to basic copy & paste?
