d37862d6-dfaa-428a-9cd8-9f5dddf0ec43
We have a client who has a 4TB RAID in which their media set resides. After the member reached 2.5TB, it asked fo rnew media, created a "2-" member but did not add it to the member list. Why would the software ask for new media when there was plenty of space? And, is it ok to moved forward and add that new member that resides on the same media (the "2-" named member)? Plus, the log gives a instruction that is not accurate for this version of the software when an error occured: "To repair it, use Tools>Repair Catalog>Update existing Catalog File." No "Tools" menu in v9, no "repair catalog", etc.
Lennart_T
The (max) capacity is set by the operator to 2.5TB. Go to Media sets and set the capacity to use 99% or 3.9TB.

d37862d6-dfaa-428a-9cd8-9f5dddf0ec43
And how do I then deal with the new member?
d37862d6-dfaa-428a-9cd8-9f5dddf0ec43
I see you can set the "member" capacity, but not the Media Set. In this case, the member(s) is set to 100% or 3725GB

henrihoffmann
Hi, have also trouble with "needs media". Have a couple of times deleted all media sets and redefined it. Especially after moving member directories, I received this message, even a few TBs are available. Is there any way to debug/understand the causer of this message at disk media sets? I use Retrospect 10.0.1 just for disaster recovery purposes. I copy the media sets between locations, therefor I have to rebuild the catalogs files and move media set members. After doing this a couple of times, it seams to be unstable to just copy the media set files and rebuild to catalog the get a consistent copy of the offsite locations. Thanks Henri
David W Lee
Matthew and Henri, are these media set members' capacity set when adding the members, or are their capacity subsequently modified after adding them. Please contact Support so that we can better understand your situations. Thanks.
henrihoffmann
Hi, I fixed this issue by restarting the Retrospect Server. Now it works again. I would be nice the get more debugging informations at problems like this. Thanks Henri
d37862d6-dfaa-428a-9cd8-9f5dddf0ec43
Members have not been set nor have they been modified after creating them. Somehow, the member max'ed out at 2.5 TB which does not make sense. The second member created (unknown whether someone clicked on something when it was asking for new media) did not show in the Members until I found and chose it. Even now we still get the following, which is a bogus instruction as it does not jibe with Retrospect v9.0.2 (no "Tools" menu, repair catalog or update catalog file): Date: 12/18/2012 !Catalog File out of sync with Backup Set "InternalRAID". To repair it, use Tools>Repair Catalog>Update existing Catalog File. Then: From Retrospect: Script "Daily Workstation Backup" failed during automatic execution, Catalog File out of sync with Backup Set. Please launch Retrospect and check the log for details. David W Lee
Matthew, please contact Support regarding the media set member capacity issue. Thanks. Date: 12/18/2012 !Catalog File out of sync with Backup Set "InternalRAID". To repair it, use Tools>Repair Catalog>Update existing Catalog File. Indeed this log message is out of date, partly due to shared Engine codebase between Mac and Windows with different UI. We are actively spec'ing more consistent UI across Windows and Mac. In the interim, we will adjust the log message during the next spin of string translation.
David W Lee
Even now we still get the following, which is a bogus instruction as it does not jibe with Retrospect v9.0.2 (no "Tools" menu, repair catalog or update catalog file): Date: 12/18/2012 !Catalog File out of sync with Backup Set "InternalRAID". The fix is already in Retrospect 10. It no longer mentions "Tools>Repair Catalog". As you already know, Console UI provides that feature via Media Sets > Repair.
