Retrospect finds strange files. What/where are they.

Recommended Posts

I see that RS is backing up files with looong names in the form of "{long string}{long string}" and seems to spend an inordinate amount of time on each.

I've searched my system for such files and can't find any.

What are these and where can I find them?

This is on Win7.

Thanks

They are stored in the hidden "System Volume Information" folder at the root of your drive(s).

I think they hold the 'restore points' created by the "System Restore" feature of Windows. Does anyone know if they can be safely excluded from backups?

Thanks for the feedback. If that's what they are, I would think it would be OK to exclude them. I've now done exactly that. Thanks
