Media Request -- Mail with media name

Recommended Posts

Hi everybody,

Retrospect has the built in function for sending a mail when a media is requested.

Unfortunatelly the mail didn't contain the media name  Also only a combination from error an media request is given

Someone here know how to change that?

Want a mail only for media request with the media name!

Maybe with a Python script, which parsing the Log-File?

Thanks a lot!

Not sure about Retrospect 8, but 7.6 for Windows the mail contains the name of the script that has stopped waiting for media. That should imply the media name, right?

Also, I'm not sure why that is important. In order to rectify the problem, you must bring up the Retrospect console anyway. And that shows you the name of the media.

Hope this helps a bit, at least.

Yeah, the report gives the name of the script, but not the specific tape.

Want to mail the requested tape to a co-worker, who can just insert the tape.

But wouldn't install the console on his client for just seeing which media is requestet.

Problem is: the data didn't fits on one LTO drive, and from time to time it's requesting an additional tape. The tapes are labeled with the correct name, so the co-worker could easily change the tape by inserting the next media when it's required.

In the case where Retrospect is simply requesting the next member of a media set, couldn't you have your person check the tape in the drive and insert the next member, since the members are of necessity all sequentially numbered?

Assuming that you are performing compares, they would then, of course, need to insert the previous member after the backup finished so that the compare could begin, and then swap the tapes a third time so that the compare can complete. Such swapping is inevitable when you have only a single tape drive and no autoloader.

That plus only the possibility to also send errors to the receipt makes it unusable.

Easiest way would be a bash or perl-script that parsing the log file, looking in the last 24 hours for "Media Request" for the script, and sending a mail with the media, which also is displayed in the log.

Will have a look if I could write it, with not so much experience in bash scripting
