Proactive backup - no files copied

Recommended Posts

Version 9 has being going great for us. However I now notice that since 3 Jan, although each backup was performed without errors, no files have actually been backed up.

This is for both Mac and Windows clients.

Server is Version 9.0.0 (319).

Not sure if it is just an error in the logging though, as the size of the snapshot stored changes each time.

For example, first time it says:

+ Normal backup using James Backup at 30/01/12 (Activity Thread 1)

To Backup Set JLB Backup...

- 30/01/12 6:35:09 PM: Copying Reliant on James Brown’s Computer

30/01/12 6:35:09 PM: No files need to be copied

30/01/12 7:04:22 PM: Snapshot stored, 363.5 MB

30/01/12 7:05:04 PM: Comparing Reliant on James Brown’s

30/01/12 7:04:22 PM: Snapshot stored, 363.5 MB

30/01/12 7:06:15 PM: Execution completed successfully

Duration: 00:31:05 (00:25:48 idle/loading/preparing)

and the next time that backup runs (the next day) it says:

+ Normal backup using James Backup at 31/01/12 (Activity Thread 1)

To Backup Set JLB Backup...

- 31/01/12 6:38:29 PM: Copying Reliant on James Brown’s Computer

31/01/12 6:38:29 PM: No files need to be copied

31/01/12 7:03:20 PM: Snapshot stored, 362.7 MB

31/01/12 7:03:52 PM: Comparing Reliant on James Brown’s Computer

31/01/12 7:05:01 PM: Execution completed successfully

Duration: 00:26:32 (00:21:24 idle/loading/preparing)

Any suggestions?

Thanks,

James.

By how much? The snapshot is around 360MB each time.

What kind of selector/filter do you have? All files except cache files? Or a custom selector/filter? In the latter case, try a predefined selector.

I know it was roughly the same, but presumably something happened if it is different? Maybe not.

I have modified the "All Files Except Cache Files" rule. Looking at my Rule I have made a mistake. One of my selectors said to 'exclude all files whose filename contains' and then the text field was blank. So yes, I was telling it to exclude all files!

Have fixed it now. Running a backup, will see how it goes. Will post back here.

Thanks Lennart,

James.

Yes, it all worked fine:

1/02/12 12:31:38 AM: Execution completed successfully

Completed: 30719 files, 3.6 GB

Performance: 353.1 MB/minute (324.2 copy, 387.5 compare)

Duration: 00:34:50 (00:14:01 idle/loading/preparing)

Thanks for your great suggestion.

BTW, I'm really liking version 9 - well done Retrospect!

Yes, error in rules is a common mistake.

You are welcome :)
