f6e71621-b691-4d3b-beef-74b6a12acf84
Advice please as I do not see a clear path to take: Currently running Mac Server 10.2.8 and Retro 5.1. No issues with working other than old and time to upgrade.... Simple operation: Backups performed on server direct. No other operations needed. I am required to facilitate an upgrade to a newer server, probably a refurb G5??? Nothing purchased yet. 1. I need to make sure we can still access VXA tapes from previous back ups. 2. I currently use external HD to back up to and need to confirm those too will work. Thank You for your time. It's been a long time since we ran Retro 5.1, but I think you'd probably be OK sticking with that version; however, an upgrade may be in order. Retro 6.0 will access 5.1 catalogs directly, and Retro 6.1 will also access 5.1 catalogs, but if you then write to them, will render them unreadable by earlier Retro versions. I'm not sure about all the variants on how the licensing worked--in our case, Retro 5.1 and 6.0 were on the same CD-ROM, and with 6.1 being a free upgrade to 6.0, all three versions can use the same license code. This may be the same for you. You can try downloading 6.0 or 6.1 from the Roxio website here. How is your VXA drive connected? If it's by SCSI and you are using any SCSI HBA other than one made by ATTO, you will almost certainly need to replace it, as ATTO cards are the only ones that work reliably beyond OS 10.2.x. VXA conneted via Firewire. Most likely we will utilize a refurbed G5. Run the easiest version to upgrade to once I confirm that the new version will see backup catalogs and be able to retrieve. Retro will live on the G5 and no network users or anything else is needed… Thanks again for your time
