One Client Is Very Slow

I have one client that is very slow and has been for years, including under several versions of Retrospect 6 and Retrospect 8, and many versions of Mac OS on a couple of Retrospect servers. The client hardware has also changed over the years. The user doesn't do a lot with his computer. All that seems to be common over the years is:

He is Japanese, not a power user by any means.

His client is Windows (all other Windows clients are fine).

The place everything bogs down appears to be "Building Snapshot..." as reported by the Status line in the Summary pane while the backup is proceeding.

The backups are fine but take many hours to complete for relatively few changed files. I am curious if there is a solution.

The time it takes to build the snapshot depends on the total number of files in the volume or favorite folder, not on the number of files that have changed. If there are a lot of files and if the client computer or connection is slow, it could take a considerable amount of time (though "hours" seems excessive). Under these conditions, the original scan and matching for that volume should also take a long time. Is this the case, or is it only the snapshot that is taking so long?

We had a client with the same problem that we were unable to resolve.

Building snapshots takes place on the client and the client slowed to a crawl.

Now this computer is replaced with a new one with (roughly) the same amount of files and the same kind of files as the old computer. The new computer has no such problems.

A wild guess is some problem with the Windows Registry.
