Restore From Backup - Cant See Backup Set

Recommended Posts

I am trying to restore from a backup which is on two external hard-drives. I have done a fresh install of Windows XP pro and installed all updates. I have also installed retrospect 7.5 with all updates. I now want to do a full restore. The retrospect backup files are visable on the external hard drives through the windows explorer window, however when i search for the backup sets or catalogue files through retrospect they are not visable so i have nothing to select. Why can retrospect not 'see' the backup files on the external harddrives?

I have attached two files to illustrate.

You are supposed to find the catalog file, not the mass of content files (whose file name extension I can't remember right now).

If you can't find the catalog file, you can recreate it (Under "Tools"). That's when you point out the folder with the mass of content files.

Hi,

Thats the problem. There does not appear to be catalogue files and when i try to create new catalogue files, retrospect cannot find any backup sets from which to create it with. I have tried all the tools etc but the problem is the same ie retrospect provides nothing to select. This is not normal behavior as it worked before i formatted my harddrive and reinstalled XP.

Ok, is this the way you try to do that?

Yes, thats the way ive done it (I have the manual and have followed the steps). The pictures i provided are what i see when i continue to drill down into the folder ie when i come to the folder where the retropect files are there is nothing to select.

Ive worked it out. I have been pressing the open button instead of the OK button. Thanks for your help.

Maybe Retrospect doen't like the parenthesis in the folder name or something? Can you rename it and try again?
