License Question When Upgrading To Lion Server

Recommended Posts

In a few days Lion will be released. And Apple has lowered the price of Lion Server so much that I'm considering buying that for my little Mac mini server at home.

Currently it's running Retrospect Desktop and also takes care of my 3 other Macs.

When/if I upgrade that Mac to Lion Server, will I have to move to Retrospect Server as well?

If so, will there be any upgrades available to go from Desktop to Server?

Are you saying that the Desktop version wouldn't work with Lion Server?

Yes, he is saying that.

What if you're just using Retrospect as a desktop user: to backup a single drive attached to the Server?

If you just want to use OS X 10.7 as a desktop user you should probably avoid the Server update.

Have you used OS X Server before? Other then as a learning exercise what do you believe OS X Server will bring to your network? Many of the services a small LAN would use (web serving, file sharing, firewall etc) are already present on all versions of OS X.

Are you _very_ familiar with how DNS works?
