mdrandol
Hello, I'm a relative newbie administering Retrospect. Or course, it's not functioning like I'd expect. <g> Hardware Configuration: WinXP Pro with Multiserver 6.5.283 Exabyte VXA PacketLoader 1x10 1U using x23 80/160GB tapes Mix of Windows XP Pro and 2k desktops and laptops as clients Desired Backup Configs: - weekly full backup of all systems - incrementals done every couple days to the same backup set - pulling a tape monthly for archival storage What's happening: I have a recycle backup sets scheduled weekly for the server, cycling from A thru D. Proactive is running for the clients and server. Recycle seems to work as expected. Proactive seemingly goes to any backup set, chosen by a mechanism I haven't figured out. I want it to go to the same as the previously run Recycle job. Can I make it work like I want? How? Regards, Mark
nekr0phage
Hi Mark, Proactive will attempt to backup to all present backup sets. If all backup sets will be present during the week, try creating additional proactive scripts to run during particular weeks to particular backup sets. mdrandol
I don't see the capability to schedule Proactive except for 'day of week' and 'time of day' under 'custom schedule'. Is there a scheduling method I'm not seeing? Thanks, Mark
nekr0phage
Hi Mark, No, you're not missing anything. I got my scheduling mixed up. You can assign backup sets to particular schedules with a regular backup script, not proactive. Proactive is typically used for backing up laptops that will be on the network only during the day and at irregular schedules. Unless you're trying to cover for this scenario, you would be better served by the scheduling available through a regular backup script.
