Backup exceeds disk size?

I've done a full backup and three incrementals on a 36G drive. The drive gave me problems so I reformatted it after doing a final incremental backup. Now, when I try to do a full restore, Retrospect tells me the files take up 55G.

 

 

 

There are 64000 files in this backup set (USB Travan). Do I now have to specify them individually just to get back to where I was this morning? Why doesn't the snapshot reflect the condition of the drive at the last backup?

Are you getting a message like "really overflow the destination?" If so, proceed with the restore, and Retrospect should be able to complete it. It over-estimates the amount of space that it needs for the restore in most cases. This knowledgebase entry explains:
