"Please select a new disk " did not happen before

Recommended Posts

Retrospect had been working just file.

Then I got this error and could not get a backup happening

The options shown don't get me where I want to go.

I see

removable disk

backup

This is a firewire disk, Maxtor 30000V, 80G that had been working ok previously.

When I check device ststus it shows up as ATAPI-A:0:0, which looks like a DVD drive

I have been able to create backup sets on the drive

I have erased the drive via Retrospect - no benefit

Reinstall 6.0 and upgrade to 6.1 - no benefit

Log shows "execution stopped by operator"

I have checked preferences - media handling - use hard drives as removable disks

Allan,

I'm so glad you sussed this out... been having the exact same problem backing up to a pair of external firewire drives. Just made up a couple of new backup sets (set 'save to file') and it's working now!

Which makes me wonder if it isn't possible for Retrospect to include some pop-up clues about the different and opaque language used in the various dialog boxes. A little on-the-spot guidance would go a long way.
