Guest Posted February 14, 2006 Report Share Posted February 14, 2006 After reading several threads on "does not compare" issues I've decided I'm more confused than when I started. I'm hoping starting new will help. I recently installed an internal Fire Wire and USB card and purchased a 160MB external WD drive for backing up to. After some driver conflicts with USB I decided to go FW and everything "Appeared" to be working. However after doing a full backup I recieved a page or so of similar errors as follows. Bad Backup Set header found (0x20004800 at 27,336,013) File "H:\Drawings\Dura\T-517419-25.dwg": didn't compare at offset 989,315 in stream "Data" Decompression failed due to corrupt input data File "H:\Drawings\Dura\Stockton\Quote021103\Untitled-1.psd": didn't compare at offset 2,847,493 in stream "Data" Decompression failed due to corrupt input data Bad Backup Set header found (0x8f69f7da at 27,423,753) File "H:\Drawings\Dura\Stockton\quote012005\Lambda\020606\517001D.TIF": didn't compare at offset 10,115,013 in stream "Data" File "H:\Drawings\Dura\Stockton\quote012005\Lambda\020606\517002D.TIF": didn't compare at offset 2,936,034 in stream "Data" Decompression failed due to corrupt input data Bad Backup Set header found (0xb03606f0 at 27,464,459) File "H:\Drawings\Dura\Stockton\quote012005\Lambda\020606\517005D.TIF": didn't compare at offset 7,225,377 in stream "Data" Decompression failed due to corrupt input data File "H:\Drawings\Ipsen\SideBy\New3-7dwg.dwg": didn't compare at offset 10,900,469 in stream "Data" File "H:\Drawings\L.A.T.O\PK-01141\Update4DWG.dwg": didn't compare at offset 9,934,785 in stream "Data" The strange thing is that each incremental backup I get fewer and fewer of these errors. 400+ the first time...down to 66 now. After reading several threads on the subject it would appear that the problem could be bad sectors on the drive, driver issues or a bug in Retrospect. Would anyone of these be more or less likely in my scenario or am I headed in the wrong direction? One thing I did not see mentioned in any thread that I just happened to come across and hadn't noticed is, is there a possibility that thye drives being two different formats may be causing this problem. Main drive is NTFS and teh backup is Fat32, apparently came formatted that way. Any help would be appreciated. Some system info. natew Posted February 15, 2006 Report Share Posted February 15, 2006 Hi Reformat the external drive as NTFS and try again. That may clear it up. Are your RAID drivers up to date? Read/write errors are likely the cause here. Nate Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
mont Posted February 17, 2006 Report Share Posted February 17, 2006 I had the same problem (compare errors). To fix the problem I had to increase the "PCI latency" from 64 to 128. This is a BIOS setting. This totally eliminated these errors. Note: I am using a Maxtor 300G external drive with 1394 interface. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
