koltes
If I understood the backup strategy correctly, when doing incremental backups, Retrospect uses several criteria based on file system meta-data such as file names, sizes, dates, ... to identify files already stored inside the backup set. This is nice to identify already stored files without reading them but it leads to duplicate storage of files containing the same data but having different meta-data information (for example copied / moved / renamed files on some platforms or files from different computers). Calculating hashes of the files selected using these criteria would save even more space in the backup set, especially when backing up multiple sources into a single backup set (for example two notebooks running the same version of Windows having the same system files).
