kneeboneATdls
This morning we did a complete system restore on one of our machines. The restore process completed and the system did its reboot. When it came back up it went through the final restore process again and wanted to reboot a second time, then a third, forth, fifth, etc... Everytime the system came up it would want to reboot again after completing a restore. We had to disable and uninstall the client to get it to stop. Any thoughts as to what would cause that? We are using Retrospect 6.5 Multiserver. This was a system restore to a client machine from the server, no CD was used. This was done after an application upgrade failed and needed to be rolled back. kneeboneATdls
Some extra info about the servers: Client Server - Windows 2000 Server with Service Pack 4(standalone, not part of a domain) running 6.5.136 version of the client. Does not run SQL or Exchange. None of the event or application logs show any errors. Server - Windows 2003 Server with Service Pack 1 (also stand alone) running Multi Server 6.5.350 with the latest driver updates. Add ons include Open File, Disaster Recovery, SQL, Exchange, with unlimited backup clients.
natew
Hi Did you reboot the server in directory services restore mode? You have to do this once in order for the Retrospect helper service to work properly. Thanks Nate
kneeboneATdls
Yes it was rebooted into the directory services restore mode, basically followed the restore procedure step by step.
natew
Hi Did the helper service start once you were in directory services restore mode? If not, start the service manually. A couple things to try: -Use a different snapshot to do the restore. -Try applying service pack 1 before running the restore. Were there any hardware changes on this machine? Are disks partitioned the same as they were when the machine was backed up? What happened that you needed to do a full restore? Thanks Nate
kneeboneATdls
There were no hardware changes on the machine. The machine was restored because of an upgrade to the software for fax services which is the server's primary function. There are a total of 5 programs that were affected. Basically the upgrade failed and we restored the server to a backup that was taken less then an hour before. I will double check the helper service in the mean time when I get a chanc e(Unfortunatly it cannot be done during the day)
edwardotis
Any news? I'm worried about Retrospect's ability to restore my Windows Servers.
