can't configure Matshita UJ-835E in PowerBook G4 15" (1.67GHz)

Current PowerBook G4 15" (1.67GHz) is shipping with a SuperDrive that's a Matshita UJ-835E (version GAN7).

 

Am using Retrospect 6.0.24 with RDU 6.2.102 on Mac OS X 10.3.8.

 

The drive's not yet listed as supported by Retrospect.

 

Have tried custom configuration with a variety of DVD-R and CD-R media from different

vendors. No luck. All get to "Write method 1 tests start" in the log and then sit silently

until I force quit Retrospect after 4+ hours.

 

Anyone have any luck with this configuration?

i am having the exact same issue with the same PB and a new mac mini too. this is the only post i have found related to this, but no solutions.

 

any fixes yet?

Sad to say many of the Mac OEM drives require special drivers from Dantz and fail on auto configuration. I would give RW media a try if you have some. Otherwise we may just have to wait for a driver.

I have spent over an hour using *CD/DVD Custom Config* for the Matshita UJ-835E in the new Mac Mini 1.4:

 

log shows:

Drive init test: Successful

Disc information test: failed

 

using Maxell DVD-R 4x

Thanks, am succesful using the the latest software (Retrospect 6.0.212 with driver 6.3.102 (aka RDU 6.3)) on Mac OS X 10.4.1 with DVD+R media.
