I've been running Retrospect forever. I am quite familiar with its operation on the Mac. I now am looking at a Windows installation and am rather surprised at some of the differences. The biggest one is that on the mac, the "engine" runs whether anyone is logged on or not, but on Windows, it seems that if I log off, Retrospect stops cold. I don't see (so far) a way to leave it running as a service. I also note that the Windows GUI reminds me of the Windows OS GUI, which has a bunch of annoyances, like the fact that the dialog boxes are generally not resizeable, even when it would be really nice. The displays of media sets, history and sources are (I think) less useful and efficient than the GUI on the mac. Is there anyone on the forum with experience with both Mac and Windows products willing to alert me to any land-mines out there? Do I need to just finish reading the documentation? (600-page! Good stuff.) Thanks, -dgl-

I am in danger of being driven insane by Retrospect. Our main file server which has several TB of data needing backed up has been backed up, in its entirety, by two of two scripts. One of which seems to forget what has already been backed up and backs up the whole darn thing again. This happened in version 9 as well and with a different script. I am happy to provide any further details if someone has some ideas. I don't want to keep burning through tapes for no reason. This machine has been backed up in completion on more than one occasion and I have watched as the snaphot is created as well so I know the process is completing properly. This does not happen with the other three dozen or so machines backed up on the same script it is just this one machine.

I have Retrospect 9.0.2 running on a 10.6.8 xServe. Client is 6.3.029 on 10.7.4 MacBook Pro When I add the client, I can only see the secondary drive the user has attached. No mention of the internal boot drive. I've uninstalled and reinstalled the client with no luck. Attached is a screenshot of what's seen from the server. The drive listed is a external drive the user has attached. Any advice?
