  1. I tried all firewall suggestions and used the PortQry tool. PortQry reported that port 497 was listening. Nothing worked even with my firewalls disabled. It turned out to be my workgroup switch causing the break in communications. I have two devices, a Linksys BEFSR41 and a Linksys EZXS88W workgroup switch. Basically I took the Retrospect 6.5 Pro backup server, any machines with the client installed, removed the Ethernet cables from the EZXS88W and plugged them into the BEFSR41 instead. Bingo - everything worked right away. I can see network clients now. As a further test I replaced the EZXS88W with a hub and Retrospect can still see the clients. Din not work with the EZXS88W in between the Retrospect server and it's clients. Please understand that all devices always have worked on the EZXS88W (and still do). I did this shuffle just for the Retrospect software to work. I think this is a demonstration of poor software engineering when it will not run through a simple, unmanaged SOHO switch. Thanks, Steve

    Help with Full Backups

I want to do full backups every night Monday to Friday. Scheduled for 10:00p.m.. Overwrite whatever tape is in the drive. Require NO USER INPUT. Just overwrite the tape, whatever tape is in the drive. Retrospect always stops and asks the user to insert another tape. Please help. The owner of this drive is getting very frustrated. Thanks in advance. - Steve

    Full Backups

I have Retrospect Express V5.6.132, Seagate Edition. Hardware is a USB external Seagate 40GB Travan drive. O/S is Windows XP Professional I would like to set Retrospect to do the following... - Full scheduled backups five days a week (Mon-Fri). No user intervention required. - Overwrite the tape on each use. - Use whatever tape happens to be in the drive. - Backup one Windows 98SE machine over the network. I read the manual about "backup sets" and "members" and "IncrementalPLUS" but I just want to make it very simple, as I desribed above. Can you please tell me how to set it up to do so. Thanks in advance for your reply. - Steve
