  1. I am kinda missing the days when Dantz owned Retrospect...and there was better tech support. But as I plan my future backup options I may avoid Retrospect 8 and will look at other options (including online backup options). Jeff
  2. Well, I finally restored the VirtualPC file called "Windows XP Home"...BUT Retrospect did not restore it correctly and in the "restore to" folder I don't have one file, but 76 files... StartMenu.plist BaseDrive.vhd Configuration.plist MainPackageFile-1 MainPackageFile ...And 71 "icon" files with names like "icon_0D012B9A.icns" Why did Retrospect so that? And not restore the file correctly? These appear to un-usable by VirtualPC... Jeff
  3. oh, and when I try and "Mark files for Restore..." the left column where it lists all folders on a volume (I guess) the text is SO tiny I can't even read it! All you see are tiny black (folder?) and gray (files?) lines....you can't even read them to see what you are clicking on! But somehow I was just able to look inside the Users folder....but now everything in the folder has a check mark next to it! eeeeeee Been trying to restore this file all afternoon...
  4. I have 6.1.230 running on an MDD DP G4 with OS X 10.4.11. I use it to back up the computer to an external 1TB hard drive. I am trying to restore a single VirtualPC 7 file, a 5GB file called "Windows XP Home". No matter what I do it will not let me select the file! I do a search on "Windows XP Home" and it can't find the file. It I try and select the file manually Retrospect won't let me click on the right-arrow/triangle next to "Users" folder so I can navigate down to, and select, this file! Any suggestions here? Also, a couple months ago I tried to use 6.1.230 to restore a CD backup set that was created with an earlier version of Retrospect, but it keeps saying it can't read that format disk or some similar message...what good is "backup" software if a new version of Retrospect can't read a disk create with an earlier version?? Jeff
  5. I have Retrospect 6.1.230 is this where I post questions for that? I see a forum for "Retrospect 8" and "Retrospect 5 and older".....but none for Retrospect 6.....hummm....maybe the moderator could label the forums better? Well, here is my question.....every time I do a backup I get the errors below from Retrospect for these Palm files. Is it because the file names include odd characters? Thanks Jeff ======= Can't read file “J:dische Feiertage.vcsâ€, error -43 (file/folder not found), path: “Disk 2 (OS X)/Applications/Palm/Holiday Files/Deutsch/J:dische Feiertage.vcsâ€. 6. Ok, I'll download Retrospect 6.1.230. Should I also get Retrospect Client for Macintosh 6.2.234? I imagine this client should work with 6.1.230 (even thought the version numbers are still not the same) Thanks, Jeff
  7. I have Retrospect Client on my PowerBook G4 with 10.4... http://home.earthlink.net/~jeff810095/RetroClient.jpg ....I see NOWHERE in the client to enter a "Activator Code" I have Retrospect 6.1.126 (5 client license) on my MDD DP G4, also running 10.4 http://home.earthlink.net/~jeff810095/RetroError.jpg Why cant I click on "Configure"? It stays dimmed! Thanks, Jeff
  8. Are you saying when Retrospect Express shows me the DVD as "Locked" OR when it says "The disc is write protected. Please unlock it and try again." OR when it says it can't be configured to work with these disks that it REALLY means "I can't use DVD-R disks anymore. Please insert a DVD+R disk, that is all I can use now." ???? geezzzzzzz......another week wasted trying to figure out why Retrospect doesn't work.....all because Retrospect can't put up a freaking dialog box saying what it means!!!!!!!!!
  9. Retrospect 6.1 Driver Update (6.1.13.101) wdwiz (6.1.126) I could not finder a newer one under the Download section. (the layout of the EMC web site is horrendous) My Dad was using Retro Express 6.1.126 on his PowerBook and it worked fine with his external Pioneer 107 drive. I tried to update him to the latest version for his intel iMac. But Retrospect, when using the external Pioneer drive, says "The disc is write protected. Please unlock it and try again." How do I unlock it? And, as I say, RE can't even be setup to use the iMacs superdrive.... Jeff
  10. Hi, My Dad has a brand new 24" iMac running 10.4.11 (we cant the the 10.5 installer to install 10.5....but thats another matter) But I cant "configure" Retrospect Express (6.1.138) to use his "SuperDrive" (Optiarc AD-5630A) in this band new iMac to recognize Taiyo Yuden DVD-R (DVD-R47ZZ100SB16) disks. These are new disks and work fine in my DP G4's Pioneer DVR111D drive. AND the iMac CAN burn DVD's fine using these Taiyo DVD-R disks. AND Retrospect can not now even back up to the external Pioneer DVR-107D (Firmware 1.05) we were using with my Dad's PowerBook G4. It sees the drive there but won't backup to these DVD-R disks.....and it shows the last DVD-R disk from the PowerBook backup set as "locked".....we moved my Dads user account over the iMac and I am trying to use the backup set from that. Why can't Retrospect Express burn to DVD's now or be configured to work with these high-quality DVD disks? Very Frustrated, Jeff

  13. >>Your issues are network issues, not Retrospect issues, and have been that way from the start.<< How about the issue of Retrospect not being able to recognize its own disks in the DVD drive? It that not Retrospects problem either? So Retrospect 6.1 has no way to find a client if the it that units IP address changes? Great! If that's the case lets go back to using AppleTalk........PLEASE!!!!!!! I am so tired of dealing with these daily problems using RETROSPECT. So Retrospect does not know how to use any of Apples Bonjor technologies? THAT is why Apple invented it. To fill a gapping hole in the easy of use of TCP/IP and IP addresses. http://www.apple.com/macosx/features/bonjour/ Its's time EMC stepped up and addresses the major problems with Retrospect 6.1. Personally, I am so tired of dealing with this I can't wait for Time Machine.
  14. Now Retrospect 6.1 doesn't see clients on the (hard wired) network unless I go into Configure and Network.....but even then it not seeing clients on the network. This morning I went to backup a G4 Client running 10.4.8 and Retrospect refuses to see it no matter what I do....and this is a client that was previously added and backed up: http://home.earthlink.net/~jeffny61/Retro.NetworkFind1.tif http://home.earthlink.net/~jeffny61/Retro.NetworkFind2.tif http://home.earthlink.net/~jeffny61/Retro.NetworkFind3.tif
  15. What am I missing? "2) Only DVD-R, DVD-RW, DVD+R, DVD+RW, DVD+R DL media is supported with this drive and Retrospect. CD-R, CD-RW, and DVD-R DL media is not supported for use with Retrospect." It says DVD-R is supported with this drive. "DL" stands for Dual Layer, correct? My DVD are not Dual Layer, they are 4.7GB disks, which should be supported.
