  1. Hi Nate, Two NICs, both on the same subnet, both pingable from the backup server. The backup server shows the W2K3 server client using the ip address of the first NIC. thanks, alan
  2. Hi, I have an Windows 2003 server running Retrospect client vers. 6.5.136. All was happy and error free until recently when error -541 started appearing(backup client not installed or not running). The Taskmanager shows RemotSvc.exe running, Services Manager shows Retrospect Client as "started". The Retrospect Client front panel shows the client is turned off(and greyed out so you can't turn it on) and the status window shows "Client networking not available, or service not running." Rebooting has been tried, as well as a de-install/reboot/re-install/reboot... Any ideas ? thanks, alan

    Server 2003 DR

I though that was just domain contollers, this is just a member server. -alan
  4. Hi, Are there any additional steps to doing a bare bones disater recovery of a Windows 2003 server beyond the OS & client install / Volume Restore / reboot cycle ? thanks.
  5. Hi, I've been testing Retrospect 7.0 under the following setup: Dell Optiplex GX270: P4 3.2 GHz, 1 GB, Windows XP (1) AHA-2940UW w/ IBM DNES-318350W SCSI Disk(C:) SDX-D500C SCSI Tape Drive (2) AHA-2940UW w/ TSL-SA500C SCSI 4-Tape Autoloader The problem is that the backup hangs searching for a tape with the appropiate label. Example: Create a new backup set "Test", start a Normal backup using "Test" as the distination; after scanning the Sources the backup job hangs with "Searching drives for 1-Test", even though all the drives have erased tapes in them. "Stoping" execution doesn't work, I have to "end task" Retrospect. thanks, alan
  6. Hi, Thanks for the suggestions, but I already tried that(well I used "1111" instead of "abc123" ). The other odd bit of data is that the server and client are on the same subnet, so I was using "subnet broadcast" to add the W2K3 client; unfortunately it disappears from the broadcast client list after the first password failure... Oh, and yes, I can log into other clients successfully. This particular backup server has over 40 clients, this is the first client I have this kind of trouble with(also the first W2K3 server I've tried to add). -alan
  7. Hi, I have a Windows XP box running Retrospect Multi Server 6.5.350. Today I installled Retrospect Client 6.5.136 on a client running Windows Server 2003; when I go to activate the client, I keep getting "wrong password"..., no matter how many install reboot cycles, or how simple the password. Can I backup W3K server client to a WinXP backup server ? Suggestions ? thanks, alan
  8. Hello there, Question re: performance vs. duration statistic: - 3/31/2004 4:52:09 AM: Copying Drive C (C:) on xxxx [ the 4 errors erased by me ] 3/31/2004 6:25:39 AM: Snapshot stored, 46.0 MB 3/31/2004 6:26:09 AM: 4 execution errors Remaining: 2 files, 11 KB Completed: 67 files, 32.8 MB Performance: 392.8 MB/minute Duration: 01:33:53 (00:02:24 idle/loading/preparing) I assume that the "perfomance" of 392.8 MB/minute refers to the copying of 67 files(32.8 MB), and that the 1.5 hr. duration is caused by gathering the security/registry information ? -alan
  9. Hi Nate, Yes Both the catalogs and disk data were in the same directory tree..., isn't that special. I've rebuilt the tree to isolate the disk data from the catalogs, all's well. thanks for your help alan
  10. Hi, I just noticed that the backup server(WinNT, Retro 6.5.319), is not backing up its catalog folder. I did a Configure Volumes -> Browse on the volume containing the catalog folder, but I can't mark the folder... What would cause Retrospect to not see/backup folder ? thanks, alan

    Missed databases...

I have created a "Windows 2k Server" folder in the Volumes Database; the folder contains W2K server clients. I can see the SQL databases when I expand the "SQL Server" treeview under the machine running the SQL server. So far, so good... I just noticed(unfortunately too late), that two new SQL databases created after the installation of the SQL agent were not backed up!!! So, what's the correct procedure to get the SQL agent to automagically detect / backup new databases ? thanks, alan
  12. Hi, Do you have a guestimate re: how much longer backups will take with open file option enabled ? thanks, alan

    Application bug ?

Hmm, seem to remember this back at 8.0 also. -alan
  14. Hi, I have linux client vers. 6.5.105 installed on a RedHat 9.0 system; I see the following entry in /var/log/messages every 5-10 minutes: May 20 08:35:42 kernel: application bug: retroclient(10001) has SIGCHLD set to SIG_IGN but calls wait(). May 20 08:35:42 kernel: (see the NOTES section of 'man 2 wait'). Workaround activated. The client seems to be backed up ok... thanks, alan
  15. Strange, my existing proactive backup script runs. I can even duplicate and edit the script; but when I click "new" it asks for a license code... Oh well, just fired an email to cust. srv. via the web form... -alan
