    Curious

Thank you for this information. I'm really excited to see multi-server management, I've requested that...very nice to see.

    Migrating to new Hardware

Yeah, we did have roaming profiles running at one point, but it was somewhat problematic to keep up. Especially for laptops. It would really be nice for when hardware fails, to be able to restore a user to another machine and that person can just walk away and keep working.
  3. We are about to replace 100+ machines with new ones. Is there any way to have Retrospect move a profile from one machine to another, or restore a profile to another machine? In the past we have had the staff person log in once to a machine, then we do a restore of the profile from backup so the staff is all set wit all their settings. I'm wondering if there is a way to do this without having to require the staff person to sign on first, just click restore profile to X machine..then the person can login. Possible? Or does this need to be a feature request? Thanks, Ric

Fix the emails to be useful

I think I have mentioned the three email thing before. I'm glad someone has posted it. I hope it can be resolved.

    Unattended RCU upgrading

    I soooo agree
  6. I would like the server to be able to email to admins that a computer/client/volume has not been backed up in XX days. We are finding that we get failures, but not emails for clients that are not ever found and therefore not backup starts. So some clients have gone days not backed up. thanks, ric
  7. Well, I'm experiencing the pain again. Clients that have not been communicated with in a month have not been backed up and I have not received notification. So, I would like to bump this up.

When will ASM customers know when/how to get their copy of 7.5? -ric
  9. Hhmmm....almost at year at this point!! I'm not excited..and I see a new version for Windows...again! -ric
  10. Sounds similiar to my request on the MacOS side of things... Multiple Retrospect Servers - Laundry List Request #32459 - 10/19/03 11:21 AM Still waiting...... -ric
  11. This feature is requested for a future release. And your support to the request in the forum "Product Suggestions - MACOS X". -ric
  12. Is there a way to script a backup and restore from computer to computer? For instance, say I want to move 108 staff from old computers to new ones. Could I use Retrospect to do this? Just the user documents and settings (win) or Users (mac). Thanks, Ric
  13. This if VERY nice to Hear....now I hope it doesn't take 2 years to come to fruition, because I think at this point 6 months would be to long. Here's hoping.. -ric Quote: Hi We are indeed aware that we can do much more to improve Retrospect for Macintosh. Larry Zulch has addressed this issue directly on the Retro talk mailing list. We are still very much committed to the Mac platform and are working hard to build new versions on par or better than Retrospect for Windows. Thanks Nate
  14. Is the Windows computer a Laptop or other with a second network card? If so, the only solution I have found is to take the Windows Retro Client down to v6.0.x. Actually, I have found that many of my rampant problems with backing up Windows Clients is to move the client to Retrospect for Windows Client 6.0.x... -Ric
  15. Update.....still going strong.... Just want to report that since moving to Retro Client v6.0, all my backup problems have disappeared. No Net Retries, no lost connections, no activator code conflicts. Backups are truly not a stressor for me anymore. Thanks karynM!! -ric
  16. Moving all WIndows Clients to Retro v6.0 solved all my backup issues. -ric
  17. I have Retrospect 6.x running with all the updates, clients are also up to date. I am running backup to a AIT-1 LoaderExpress from Overland (19 tapes). The clients are OS9.2.2, OSX 10.x, Windows 2000. On nightly basis, Retrospect will get with one client or another perform an endless Net Retry on a client and not continue on. I have set the threshold to 100kb, still attempts. In this casse for 9hrs. It is a different client each time. Over night client machines are logged out, not shutdown. This has prevented me from getting a reliable backup for months! In many cases, once I access the Retrospect computer, the Net_retry stops and continues on. Thanks for any help... -Ric
  18. Did you forget the client before you tried to add it with the new IP address? -ric
  19. My backup issues with my Win2k and WinXP clients disappeared when I took the windows client back to v6.0. Any client higher the clients disappear and reapper at random. Causing various errors that are always blamed on the configuration. This of course is only my experience, but was pointed in that direction (downgrading the client to 6.0) from these forums. -ric
  20. Since Taking KarynM's route of backinstalling to Retro 6.0 Client on Windows, all clients work 100%. 100%! We haven't had 100% for a very long time. This tells me that there is some flaw in the clients versions higher then 6.0. At least when using Retrospect Server on MacOSX. -ric
  21. This has been a major issue for my 200 clients for 3 years. I have seen discussion threads on this topic many times. It always comes down to finger pointing at the client machine, and I believe sits unresolved for most of us using Retrospect. I do not think it is the client machine that is the issue, but something in the Client software. I hope something resolves this soon. -ric
  22. Quote: After playing with rules etc, I still think allowing a backup script to separate the backup specification (what, when) from the backup set so as to allow (e.g.) a 4 week cycle that uses one set, then the other (alternating every 4 weeks rather than alternating every week) would be better. Its less confusing and allows for file retention going back much further and contiguously. Maybe I am confused to exactly what your trying to do here. I currently have one Script that rotates automaticly through four sets every four weeks. The fourth set, weekD, is rotated off site. Easy to setup, easy to follow. -Ric
  23. Quote: Are firewire AIT drives (either from Sony or LaCie) working well with Retrospecit 6 and Panther? thanks, J I have been using two Lacie AIT-1 Firewire drives for a several months on two seperate machines, one running Retro 6 the other running Retro 5.x. Seems to be working just fine. I am also using 3 Lacie 120GB Firewire drives. -Ric
  24. Quote: zenjohn said: I can't recommend to any client to upgrade, no will I be doing so, until this is addressed by Dantz: Retrospect will only put 3.0 GB on a single 4.7 GB DVD-R or DVD-RW. There is no mention of this in the update difference press release. Also, the fact that there is no user warning that using a CDR in a DVD set will keep you from going back to using DVDs. I have been using DVD_R to backup...and it has been using almost the entire 4.7GB.... -Ric
