Error -530 (backup client not found)

Many thanks - I have VMware Horizon View Client installed (and Retrospect v12.6), and have tried the suggested setup, but unfortunately without success: [1] Configure => Clients => Interfaces (Left icon on tool bar or cntl-I) => New (Alt-N) Enter a name for the new Interface. It shows multiple IP addresses, the physical ones and the Virtual ones. Select one of the physical addresses and close the box and Save. Options: 192.168.1.66 Static < selected 192.168.1.71 Static [2] Add (Client) => Advanced (Alt-V) Under Interface, Pick the new one you created. 'Live Network' dialog: "Searching for backup clients" = never completes Dave.

Error -530 (backup client not found)

Retrospect appears to be working after changing the Retrospect application in the backup client firewall: Application to allow Port 497 access via VIPRE firewall (backup client): C:\Program Files (x86)\Retrospect\Retrospect Client\retroclient.exe And NOT C:\Program Files (x86)\Retrospect\Retrospect Client\Retrospect Client.exe Update 30 Oct 2017 - the above 'Port 497' exception has stopped working, but have no idea why. Reverting to original workround: switch off both firewalls.

Error -530 (backup client not found)

FYI: Retrospect Technical Support have responded: "I have no familiarity with the VIPRE software. Retrospect doesn't have much going for it in terms of firewall related configuration. I don't think there is going to be anything we can do on our end to bypass your security. We add standard firewall exceptions to the Windows firewall when our software is installed, but we count on customers to work with third party providers to allow exceptions in their software as needed. Is there any way to "redirect" the settings that were previously applied to the older version of Retrospect, such that they apply to the current version? I would assume that any port related exceptions would still be functional, as we always use port 497 ..."

    1) I've tried several variations of Firewall on/off settings and always see 'Not Listening' (via portqry on the Laptop client), 2) No, I'm not sure that VIPRE is permanently switched off. I've logged further details with Tech Support about this latest unsatisfactory episode.

Error -530 (backup client not found)

Previous backup (30 Sep 2017) was successful after switching off VIPRE firewall on both systems, but find today that this no longer works, i.e., Retrospect 12.5 generates Error -530 and cannot detect backup client with Win7 x64 Firewall in place.

David: Many thanks - I'll bear this in mind (this latest time I simply switched off the firewall on both systems, whilst I undertook a backup, but I'm not keen on this). Dave.

Error -530 (backup client not found)

FYI: Just upgraded to Retrospect 12.5.0.177 and find that Error -530 (backup client not found) has returned - does anyone know if Retrospect is going to address this problem ?

Error -530 (backup client not found)

This appears to be resolved, after VIPRE Tech Support were allowed direct access to my PC re Retrospect Client. The procedure complemented the VIPRE Exception/Port settings (see previous screenshot), and involved 2 VIPRE firewall 'learning' sessions: 1) with VIPRE on the PC, where various modules are flagged by VIPRE (some have cryptic names), to be set as 'allowed' until such messages cease to appear, whilst also running Restrospect on the networked Laptop, 2) and then for VIPRE running on the networked laptop, ditto. NB After concluding the successful 'learning' sessions on the PC ('Retrospect client'), and on the networked laptop, the PC was immediately shut down via Windows 'sleep' mode. Upon re-starting the PC, several hours later, a Windows 'Blue Screen' appeared, screenshot attached. It seems to have been a single event, and not evident in subsequent reboots.

Error -530 (backup client not found)

Update - currently: stalemate, VIPRE Tech Support and Retrospect Tech Support need to talk to each other. I've tried a number of VIPRE firewall settings, without success - screenshot attached - and the conclusion seems to be that VIPRE and Retrospect are no longer compatible. This is possibly due to VIPRE inflexibility with the settings for TCP/UDP protocols (Retrospect Tech Support say: "The client uses both TCP when streaming data, and UDP when sending multicast packets. Both should be allowed for port 497").

A temporary workround has been found: manually disable the Windows Firewall option in VIPRE on both PCs (auto-managed by VIPRE). The Firewall can be enabled afterwards. Dave.

Error -530 (backup client not found)

"When the Client had been Forgotten, Added, and its address tests OK ..." - I've 'forgotten' the client, but can't 'Add' a new one. Secondly, further feedback from Retrospect Tech Support: "We frequently see the network configuration "changing" 2017-05-31T12:04:49: Network configuration changed 2017-05-31T12:20:09: NetStop: signaling gEndEnumIntfEvent 2017-05-31T12:20:14: Network configuration changed 2017-05-31T12:20:28: Preferred connection changed. Reset listener. 2017-05-31T12:20:34: netCheckNewInterfaces(windows): had an IP address and now lost it 2017-05-31T12:20:34: No IP Address available 2017-05-31T12:20:34: NetStop: signaling gEndEnumIntfEvent 2017-05-31T12:20:34: netEnumInterfaces: broke out of interface loop 2017-05-31T12:20:34: NetSockDel: interface 0 not found, socket 572 could not be deleted" And: From the log I sent him prior, he [network engineer] mentioned that clearly something unusual is going on with the network since netCheckNewInterfaces is alternating between "Network configuration changed" and "No IP Address available". He mentioned "While retroclient will eventually find "192.168.1.70" again it might not be able to establish a UDP listener which is what their server would use to locate their client on their network." Further investigation by Retrospect is in hand. I've also run PortQryUI on the other (non-Client) Retrospect PC, querying port 497 for both TCP/UDP, results below. Dave. Starting portqry.exe -n 127.0.0.1 -e 497 -p BOTH ... Querying target system called: 127.0.0.1 Attempting to resolve IP address to a name... IP address resolved to XXXLaptop [Retrospect v12; not Client] querying... TCP port 497 (unknown service): NOT LISTENING UDP port 497 (unknown service): NOT LISTENING portqry.exe -n 127.0.0.1 -e 497 -p BOTH exits with return code 0x00000001.

I've tried PortQryUI on the Retrospect Client PC and see this response: TCP port 497 (unknown service): LISTENING UDP port 497 (unknown service): NOT LISTENING portqry.exe -n 127.0.0.1 -e 497 -p BOTH exits with return code 0x00000001 Dave.

Thanks again - it's Retrospect Inc. Tech Support who I've contacted and who are currently puzzled ;-) I use Microsoft Update, not in auto-install mode but in notification mode, for me to update as appropriate. Automated updating of signatures applies for the anti-virus/anti-malware systems, but not the software - this is a manual process. Dave.

Error -530 (backup client not found)

Many thanks for the suggestions - Tech. support are also investigating and puzzled by my network configuration (they're perusing C:\ProgramData\Retrospect Client\ files and IPConfig details). I'll post again when anything significant arises. "did Dave... do anything between 3 May 2017 and now equivalent to the "wholesale software reinstallation" he did in 2015?"the - only the updating of both sets of anti-virus/anti-malware software: * Vipre 10.1.3.3 - ca 14 May 2017 * Malwarebytes 3.1.2.1733/Component 1.0.122/Update package 1.0.2061 - ca 19 May 2017 Dave

Error -530 (backup client not found)

Last successful Retrospect 7.7.620 7.7.341 backup 3 May 2017 across network (Win 7 x64 systems), but yesterday encountered "Error -530 backup client not found" 1) Upgraded and replaced v7.7 software with Retrospect v.12.0.0188 (and Retrospect Client), but still see same error. 2) Tried: Configure > Clients > Properties > Tools but see "Error -530 backup client not found" Any suggestions much appreciated. Dave.
