  1. I have been working for more than a week to delete the empty folder on my C drive. It is named "System Volume Information." It contains 0 files and folders and is the first empty folder to be found. Win 2000 Prof by will not let me delete it claiming it is in use. I have tried deleting from "safe mode" with the same result and from DOS with no luck. Any ideas if this empty folder is causing the problem and if so, suggestions on deleting it. BTW - all folders after this one show as empty. TIA Bruce
  2. Thank you for your reply. It is a start. When I followed the directions, I came across several empty folders. Some were not on the C drive of the laptop and I deleted them from the Retrospect program. I was then able to scan up to 1900 folders until I got the next Mapid Database Corrpt error. This time it appears to be a folder on C drive named "Disk Information Folder". I can not delete it wthin Retospect and I can not delete it using Win 2000 - Error is file in use - Access denied. Even tried using safe mode - same answer. I ran Norton and ScanDisk and still unable to solve this problem. So far delted three empty folders. Each time leads to more files beign scanned. Thanks fo you support Bruce Bogdanoff
  3. I bought Retrospect server to backup my G4 533 and IBM Thinkpad 366 running Win 2000 Prof. It backs up the G4, although I still get a Error 102 when the CDR is filled. then it is quit program, run Tools-Repair and update the Catalog - then continue. However, this mapid database is very annoying becasue that is why I bought the server instead of the express. I just deleted the Retro. program from the hard drive completely using uninstall, the Searched for any remanants and deleted those files. resinstalled 5.0 from CD then updated to vers. 238 and then updated driver to 3.6. I also delted the Client 6.0 on the laptop and reinstalled that as well. Here you see the log from the first time I tried to backup the laptop. So the big question is wher can I delete this file. Does it reside on the laptop or on the Mac and is it hidden? Before reinstalling Client and Program I ran Norton Utilities on both machines. No problems on the MAC, but the laptop repored a MAPISERVE.DLL is missing and may be on another drive. It was impossible for me to delte this file or find out where it is located from Norton's. I have repeatedly tried the suggestions on the website: deleting client and the adding it back, by running Norton's on the laptop, deleting preferences on the Mac and now completing deleting the program. All to provided no remedy. Anybody have any other suggestions?? ? Retrospect version 5.0.201 launched at 7/9/2003 9:34 AM Quit at 7/9/2003 9:35 AM ? 4. Can anyone tell me where this file exists so I can delete it and start fresh. I removed client, deleted the pref file and and ran Norton on the Laptop to correct Windows and disk problems. 5. Texan, Thanks your for your comment. After each CD is filled I then get the 102 error. I quit Retrospect and restart it, I then do a catolog check, usually no problem and restart backing up to the same backup set . After it goes through my backed up partitioned HD it then continues where it left off. This is a pain for the first back up of a set, but the incrementals work smoothly after that because there isn't enough data to fill a set. I have has nothing but problems with Retrospect since I upgraded to 5.0 to be able to use with OS X. First it was errors 205 and 206 in OS 10.1.x and then Errror 206 in 10.2 and now Error 102 in OX 10.2.4. I always back up the Matshita CDRW CW-7586 vers 1A17 (5.01) asn have tried Sony CDRs and HiVal - all to no avail Let's hope that Amy comes up with a solution. BTBogdan
  6. I had the same error when backing up a PC laptop running Win 2000 to a G4 533. 7. I am backing up a PC laptop to a G4 533 with Retro 5.0 238, driver 3.4.103. I keep getting the Mapid Database is corupt. Today, however I was able to back up to backup set H fine, but then whe i went to second backup set I , the backup set reported "- 3/11/2003 11:32:04 AM: Copying Laptop HD (C:) on Laptop… Scanning incomplete, error -24242 (mapid database is corrupt). * Resolved container Local Desktop container to 5 volumes:" Isn't it the same Database? I tried the qck fix of removing the Laptop from the script adn the network and then adding it back with no success. I reallly do not want to delete the preferences as one backup set is working and establishing preferences over again is a real time consuming pain. Any ideas or quick fixes. I believe the coruption came becasue the set had a 102 error adn I stopped the backup, quit retro and then restarted the backup process again - but the Error 102 is another thread TIA
  8. I have been trying to get Retrospect to work with my internal "Panasonic CD-RW" (MATSHITA|CD-RW CW-7586 |1A17). i have upgradedto each new driver and am now getting Error 206 and then the second or third disk the fatal error 205. I have switcjed media form HI-Val to Sony with no real improvement. In addition. when the Program gives me a Error 205, I then get the error -24242 (mapid database is corrupt) when I try to backup the PC laptop. Yes, I remove client, then connect client (this only worked once), then delete preferences(yuch had to redo all the do not backup files and folders), this usually works - sometimes and then Norton the PC (may work if not delete the client and reinstall 6.0 again) Cross fingers and hope this works. Here is the log any idea how to get this program to work with my G4 533 with 1.12 gig memory on OS X.1.5. TW this weekend I will upgrade to OS X.2.4 Maybe this will solve tthe prblem or anybody have an idea of what knd of CD RW will work with this computer and software. All ideas are welcomed. 9. Here is the problem. I am backing up my Mac desktop G4 533, OS X.1.5 with 1.1 gig memory to the internal CDRW listed below: device revision 1A17 Product Identification CD-RW CW-7586 Vendor Identification MATSHITA. I get the Error 205, most of the time, but on occasion the program does close out one CDR and then moves to the next one; however, when I go to check the closed out CDR, I get a disk unreadable. The next one ends up by closing with a Error 205 or finishing at which time is is a forced quit and maybe a restart. How do I recatalogue the unreadable CDR. I am using version 5.0.238. As of today I just let it forget backup CD 6 and 10. I need ideas as this program has never been able to properly close a CD.
  10. I get the same error and sometomes the Error 205. I have a G4 533 using retrospect Server 5.0 build 205. The CDRW is the one that came with the Mac. CD-RW ata device type atapi, device serial, device revision 1A17, Product Identification CD-RW CW-7586, Vendor Identification MATSHITA Mac OS overview System: Mac OS X 10.1.5 (5S60), Built-in memory:1.12 GB I have wasted 5 CDRs and the modus operandi is always the same. I start the script, the program backs up to the CDR, starting quickly at 75 mb and then slowing to 8 mb and just when you are ready to eject the disk for Set A #2----the error 205 or 206 is displayed the and program freezes. Forced quit sometimes works and at other times it is a manual restart. Retrospect 4.3 had no trouble backing up to this CDRW, although it was as slow.
