  1. Thanks! I'll try that.
  2. Running a routine backup script from a network PC to a NAS, I got this error message: 15/12/2017 09:31:54: Verifying DATA (D:) on ***-********* Grooming Backup Set ***-XPS8900, optimizing for storage... Grooming Backup Set ***-XPS8900 failed, error -1010 (API request bad) You must recreate the Backup Set's Catalog File. I rebuilt the catalog file and reran with the same error. Backing up the C: drive from this machine and backing up another PC with a similar script both run with no issues. I presume there is an error in AA000077.rdb, which is one of three files from a backup in May 2017. Can I just rename it or is there some way of fixing it? Andrew
  3. Microsoft has made networking changes, which are causing isues over on the ReadyNAS users forum. There was a change made with the Fall Creators update with SMB: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/4046019/guest-access-smb2-disabled-by-default-in-windows-10... I don't understand the technicalities - but it doesn't seem helpful!

    What does error mean?

Running a routine backup from a client to a ReadyNas unit - done before. Using v12.0.0.188 The system went into an "active hang" with non-stop activity on the NAS and a log entry of: - 12/05/2017 09:54:13: Copying DATA (D:) on ********* 12/05/2017 09:54:45: Found: 30,216 files, 2,840 folders, 106.1 GB 12/05/2017 09:54:46: Finished matching 12/05/2017 09:54:52: Copying: 2,732 files (102.1 GB) and 0 hard links - 12/05/2017 11:28:51: Verifying DATA (D:) on *********** [*] soccRecv: recv failed, error 10054 [*] soccCallback: kNetSelectorClose error 10053 Grooming Backup Set VSH XPS8900, optimizing for storage... What does error mean?

OK, I see what's happened. I built a new catalog, and Retrospect groomed the backup set - see previous listing. During the process I looked at the NAS and there was a complete backup of the backup set - 1.2TB! After the grooming this disappeared. After the whole process I seem to have a proper backup.....

Lennart, I have 1.24TB free out of a total of 5.39TB!!! Since I posted, I've run a full volume file scan with no errors, then recreated the catalog from disk files. Now I'm rerunning the backup job, which has backed up the C: drive with no errors and is currently grooming.... - 05/06/2017 10:55:29: Copying OS (C:) on VSH-********* 05/06/2017 10:57:47: Found: 231,966 files, 44,355 folders, 66.9 GB 05/06/2017 10:57:50: Finished matching 05/06/2017 10:58:01: Copying: 8,845 files (4.8 GB) and 7 hard links - 05/06/2017 10:58:05: Verifying OS (C:) on VSH-********* Grooming Backup Set VSH XPS8900, optimizing for storage...

    Errors in Win10 backup

OK - I've run chkdsk ( it's there from the Command Prompt) - no issues. This is a machine which started with XP, then had an upgrade to Win7, then another to Win10, and I think it's just too much. Something has got crossed..... It's seven years old, and I'm replacing it.

    Errors in Win10 backup

Using Version 10.5.0.110 I regularly (weekly) back up my wife's machine across the network. Errors in Win10 backup

Both machines are upgradees - but three months ago. Retrospect has been working well until recently. It's the Can't back up registry, error -1013 (malformed name) which worries me!
  13. A very basic question.... I want to upgrade my home computer, which is part of a small network. I want to replace an old Win10 machine (lets call it A) with a modern Win10 machine. A is a BIOS machine, B has UEFI. Can I move everything from A to B by doing making a disaster recovery disk from A, then booting from it in B and doing a dissimlar hardware recovery, keeping the existing drivers? B will have more disk space than A (A has 2x 500MB disks, each with 2 partitions; B will have a 250MB SSD and a 2TB HDD), but I can see one potential issue: the C: drive on A is sized at 320MB (but only 180 GB is used); C: on B is 250MB.
  14. Lennart, It's too early in the day - of course it should be 180GB out of 320GB! I know there's some junk, but I laso have a lot of legacy programs which have come from XP-> Win7 -> Win 10, and I'm not sure if they would install under Win10. I wouldn't expect to copy over any drivers for standard hardware. I read the section of the manual: You may also choose to select one of the following options at the bottom of the dialog: ▪ Keep the latest driver version — Check this option if you want to keep the latest version of the drivers during the forced re-injection. This option is only available when the Inject all necessary drivers... option, above, is selected as meaning that I want to keep drivers on System B whenever possible... Is that correct?
  15. OK Icon has gone. I must have had a finger malfunction when installing 9.0.0 (from the date). Thanks Andrew
  16. Two issues - possibly related. I upgraded from V8 to 9.0.0 (89) and then to 9.0.1 (110) When I start Retrospect, it insists on telling me that V9 is available - do I want to upgrade. Possibly related - the retrospect client on the same machine - 9.0.0.(187) keeps telling me there's been no backup for over a month - not true!
  17. Aha - Retrospect Client 9 is installed - I'll remove it. I don't know how it got there...
  18. Robin I don't have a client installed on this machine - the client database only shows two networked machines. I have a red icon on the lower right task-bar. When I hover over it, I get the attached frame.
  19. I know it's not actually the client - it's the bit of the program which sits on the task bar and produces warnings....

    8.1 update

I see the 8.1 update is now available. Do I just run the installer, or do I remove my 8.0 first? Andrew

    8.1 update

Thanks! I know I'm stupid, but might it be helpful to document this in a "Readme", or even to have an "upgrade" option in the installer?
  22. I've succesfully upgraded from 7.7 to 8.0. Win7Pro64 Every time I start up 8.0 I get a message telling me that there's an upgrade available. When i ask for details, it tells me 8 is available! If I go to Help/ check for updates, I get two windows. One tells me I'm up to date; the other tells me that an upadet to v8 is vailable. I'm confused....

    What is ASM?

Robin, Thanks. What is the status of patches? Would I need ASM for them? Andrew

    What is ASM?

I've just upgraded from 7.7 to 8 - not yet installed - and I was offered it with or without "ASM" - but I couldn't find any description of what "ASM" was... SO - I bought without. BUT what is it, do I need it, and if so how do I buy it? Andrew

    What is ASM?

So what do you get for it? Without it, can you use the forum and get patches? Andrew
