  1. Reply to DavidHertzberg: I only installed "HPE OpenStore Standalone" to confirm that it recognized the tape drive and worked (because Retrospect was not working). I do not intend to use it. Re Lennart-T: I tried your suggestion and disabled the device, but with no improvement. The really frustrating things is that it was working on this machine before. I thought perhaps the problem was related to antivirus software (Eset NOD32) so I disabled that completely - but Retrospect still does not find the tape device. It really puzzles me what Retrospect is doing, because my other tape utilities and backup applications can see and use the connected Ultrium 3000 drive, just not Retrospect 11.5. Andy
  2. Retrospect 11.5 under Windows 10, 64 bit does not find my LTO-5, HP Ultrium 3000 drive. Windows 10 is up-to-date. The hardware is an HP Z620 workstation with an LSI 9207-8e HBA. The HBA and tape drive show up in Windows Device Manager. The tape drive is also identified quickly by "HP Library and Tape Tools" and passes all tests. Since having the problem with Retrospect I installed the "HPE OpenStore Standalone" LTFS application as a test. It also picks up the tape drive immediately without any difficulties. I have re-installed Retrospect several times and under the Configure/Devices, Environment tab, I have "refreshed" devices numerous times, but no improvement. In the past, Retrospect was finding the drive (although intermittently) but it is now a consistent fail. I previously was using an LSI-9200-8e HBA and had the same problem so I upgraded to the 9207-8e, but it has made no difference. This seems to be a Retrospect problem specifically, because it is only Retrospect that cannot find the drive. Help, please. Andy
  3. Hi, I have had a problem of my LTO-5 drive not showing up in Retrospect for months. I have an External Ultrium 3000 LTO-5 drive connected via an LSI 9200-8e SAS adapter to an HP Z620 Running Windows 10 1607 I have installed the latest HP Window driver and the LTO drive is running the latest firmware. The drive shows up in device manager and tests out fine under HP L&TT. But the drive does not show up in Retrospect 11.5, regardless of whether I boot Windows with the drive connected or power up the drive while Windows is already running, It does not show under "Storage Devices" in Retrospect and even though I've tried clicking the "Refresh" button under "Environment" tab numerous times, the drive still does not appear. The strange thing is, it has worked in the past - I have a list of Snapshots in Retrospect to prove it! We have coped without Retrospect for a while but now need it working as soon as possible to do some archiving. I have tried re-installing Retrospect 11.5 - with no change in the situation. I would be interested in upgrading to version 12 for the Avid Media Composer integration, but obviously not until this problem is resovled. Suggestions? Andrew

  5. Hi, Thank you for the reply. Here is some more information: I'm running Retrospect version 10.5 under Windows 7 Ultimate on an HP Z620 workstation. The tape drive is an HP StorageWorks Ultrium 3000 with a new HP LTO-5 cartridge connected via a LSI 9200-8e HBA. I created a "Backup Set" and added a single tape. I then ran "Tools->Archive Files" The source is a single volume (a whole Windows drive corresponding to a partition on an internal SATA drive). It contains mostly audio and video files. The total job is 9746 files, 533.4 GB. After 34.1GB (around half way through a sub-folder containing 1321 files) Retrospect stops and rewinds to perform verification, which succeeds. Then I get a "Please select a new tape..." dialog box. I've tried several times and each time exactly the same thing happens - it gives up at 34.1GB. The log simply shows that the user stopped the process, because I cancel it at the point I'm asked for another tape. I'm guessing that that Retrospect thinks the tape has reached capacity when in fact it is no where near capacity. If I select "Properties" on the backup set member tape I get HP Ultrium Gen 5 DC Vendor: HP Product: Ultrium 5-SCSI Revision: Z6ED Location: Bus 5, ID 0 Status: Ready Cleaning interval: Not specified Last known cleaning: Media: 1-PROJECTS 1 Jan 2016 Created: 31 January 2016, 23:41:42 Format: U-516, DC Attributes: M Backup Set member Tape Alert: Disabled Also, if I look at the Options tab in the Backup Set properties and click the "Capacity" button, it displays "(automatic)". I'm hoping Retrospect is going to work for me but I'm not having much luck so far. Any more ideas?
  6. Hi, I'm trying out version 10. I'm trying to archive approximately 550gb of data using "Tools->Archive Files". The destination is a "Backup set" containing a single LTO-5 cartridge. Every time the process gets as far as about 34GB I'm prompted to add new a new "Member" to the "Backup set". It is an LTO-5 cartridge so able to store around 1.6TB uncompressed so what is going on? Is this a limitation of the trial version? Help please. Andy
