  1. In previous versions of Retrospect it was possible to tell Retrospect not to run during set times. I can find this setting in 8 for the Backup server but not for regular backup scripts. In 6 you could tell it not to run the script during specified times. I've looked in the manual but can't find it there either. Has this capability gone away?

    Missing schedules

No, they were gone and there were no future events showing. It was only the schedule info that I lost, it remembered the catalog files and the clients and other settings.
  3. So I have a client who has had a lot of issues with Retrospect 8 since installation. We finally set it up with some very simple scripts (previously we had tried to be more creative with a proactive backup script), one for each backup drive and they worked great for about two weeks, then suddenly stopped working. When I logged in to look at it the schedules were gone. Vanished.
  4. This client was having lots of problems with data overwrite attempts and the catalog getting out of synch. We finally replaced the tapes hoping that would resolve the problem. Now we're getting an error 206 with sense info from the tandberg. Any idea how to parse this information? Do we need to replace the drive? Can't read file “.hotfiles.btreeâ€, error -40 (file positioning error), path: “Macintosh HD/.hotfiles.btreeâ€. Trouble writing: “1-MZA Week 3†(1705836544), error 206 (drive reported a failure: dirty heads, bad media, etc.). Additional error information for device "Tandberg Ultrium 2 DC" [0:2], Sense > f0 00 03 00 00 00 08 0e 00 00 00 00 03 02 00 00 00 00

    HP LTO Ultrium 4 crashes

I have an Ultrium 2 with the ATTO ULF5D and it keeps crashing. Analysis of the crash logs seem to indicate it is a media related error. It has now failed with three different tapes all of which worked fine on 6.1, so looks like I'm going to be downgrading as well.
  6. Well updated drivers and firmware for the scsi card did not fixe the problems. It is still crashing half way through the backup every night. Looks like I'm going to have to downgrade to Retrospect 6.1
  7. Yup those numbers were correct. I've downloaded and installed the updated versions and we'll see if that helps.
  8. The mac Book pro running leopard is what I'm controlling the console from. The engine and the tape drive are running on a Mac Pro Tower running 10.4.11 with an ATTO EPCI-UL5D-0R0 PCI Express Ultra 320 card. Driver version is 4.2.0. It was working just fine with Retrospect 6. Off to check for firmware and driver updates.
  9. So new tape, long erase... and still lots of crashing and errors. There were more media header and sense errors in the log. This is three different tapes that have had issues. Though it will back up some of the clients regardless of the errors, but at random times it will crash completely. Does it not like the tape drive? It is a Tandberg Ultrium 2 DC connected via scsi. !Bad Media Set header found (0xe0dc3280 at 164723394) !Trouble reading: "1-MZA Week 1" (2573859), error 0 ( unknown) !Bad Media Set header found (0xee13ffff at 164896410) Additional error information for device "Tandberg Ultrium 2 DC" [0:4], Sense > (TANDBERG|TS400 |0376)Additional error information for device "%s%s" [0:4], Sense > (TANDBERG|TS400 |0376)]
  10. Well trying again for this week. Did a long erase of the tape. I also thought I would recreate the settings again for good measure. But it is crashing while I'm working with the clients, adding or browsing the clients. It isn't writing a full crash log out but is logging this to the System Log. 12. So the new more verbose engine seems to be telling me less unless it is writing logs to somewhere else. It keeps crashing and not writing anything that it has done to the logs, though I have observed it backup some clients. Though when it goes it usually takes down the console too. Since I installed the new engine it has written nothing to the assert_log.utx. It has written crashes to the os x crash reporter. What are my next steps. I'm switching tapes out again and haven't gotten a full backup in the last two weeks. I can try tossing the config files yet again and recreate everything again, but if that doesn't work I feel like I've got to downgrade back to 6.
  13. Mind you I got the 503 errors in a series of emails over and over again as if it were crashing. But the new engine wrote nothing to assert file or to the regular system log and the 503 errors don't show up in the error log. I then backed up a single system which was successful and then ran a manual backup of multiple systems. That last backup doesn't show up in the activity history or the log. The only entries for the log are these. + Retrospect version 8.0.609 Launched at 4/16/2009 2:04 AM Exit at 4/16/2009 8:27 AM + Retrospect version 8.0.609 Launched at 4/16/2009 8:27 AM There are no crashes reported anywhere for this time period, And the only indication of the script is that two of the bakckup clients show up in the past backups as having had files backed up at 1:15 am and 1:32 am respectively.
  14. Yes I have run Disk First Aid on the Filesystem, repaired permissions, removed the config80.dat and .bak files and uninstalled and reinstalled twice. I am on to the second tape which was erased completely before using (and never exhibited any problems under Retrospect 6) and am still having a multitude of problems. I either get crashes when it runs or it decides not to find any of the clients and give me as 503 error on every single client (but then will relent and work if I back a client up individually). It crashes and relaunches every time I try to close it from the system preferences (but the command line did work).
