  1. We have a problem with Retrospect. It keeps crashing half way through a backup. Retrospect logs just say: - 8/22/2013 11:11:51 AM: Copying AdminMailbox 8/22/2013 11:12:20 AM: Execution stopped by operator Remaining: 102 files, zero KB Completed: 0 files, zero KB Performance: 0.0 MB/minute Duration: 00:00:29 (00:00:19 idle/loading/preparing) Event Viewer gives the following information: The description for Event ID 1 from source Retrospect cannot be found. Either the component that raises this event is not installed on your local computer or the installation is corrupted. You can install or repair the component on the local computer. If the event originated on another computer, the display information had to be saved with the event. The following information was included with the event: Trouble reading files, error -1010 ( API request bad) The specified resource type cannot be found in the image file We run multiply scripts and tapes, it happens on every tape and script. We have uninstalled and re-installed retrospect which didn't help. Retrospect appears to backup about 25% of mailboxes before this happens and just quites. When we look in the logs to see where it got to there is no information just what i posted above. Please help, we are unable to backup any of our Exchange mailboxes. We have 8.2 installed on the exchange server with Exchange agent and we backup another Exchange server via a client. this had been working with no problems, only recently started to happen and no longer able to complete a backup.
  2. To add to this i'm not too sure it is a licencing issue. It appears to be licenced on both the mailbox and the client machine fine, i just can't see the mailboxes on the backup client machine. Any ideas? Both machines using the RBU group on the domain with what i believe to be the correct domain privelidges.
  3. Yeah you are right, the Docs do clearly state this. Prior to the update it was never a problem. I thought a full backup would have truncated the logs as well as a Log/Incremental backup. I will do a experiment and report back.
  4. We are doing a Full backup. We have always done a full backup though and never been a problem previous to the update. My understanding is that Full Backup also truncated the logs as well as Log/Incremental Backup. It's only Differential Backup that didn't. I may be wrong and this may have changed in version 8 perhaps?
  5. We have 2 Exchange servers. Up until recently we had a hub and mailbox server. Retrospect was installed on the mailbox server. We recently promoted the hub to also be a mailbox server to create a new storage group offering more storage space. Retrospect is still installed on the original Mailbox Server, I have installed a client on the other Exchange server which i can see in Retrospect, I can see the Store and the Mailbox folder but i can't see any mailboxes within it. I am logging in as the same Domain user as the mailbox server. Any ideas? Could it be a licence issue? we have retrospect licenced on the mailbox server with the Exchange agent add on, but as the other server is only a client would that need it's own Exchange agent add on? I would have thought that would be fine as it's only a client and the main installed retrospect as the add on.
  6. We have been using Retrospect for many years. back in 2011 we upgraded to the latest version of Retrospect which was out at the time. Never thinking anything of it, we assumed it was all working well. Anyway, we recently noticed our Exchange Server at breaking point in terms of space availible. Upon looking in to the problem it turned out not to be used space by deleted mailboxes and pure volume of mailboxes. It was down to the transition logs. So we looked in to this further and our understanding is that Retrospect sends a command to the Exchange server after a backup to Trunk "delete" old logs? These log files go back to the invoice date we installed the Upgrade to Retrospect in other words the day it was upgraded. It had been working fine up to this point. This points to a Retrospect issue! These files are about 1mb each however there are hundreds of thousands of these files, that is allot of data. Can you please help resolve this issue asap as we are at breaking point. Thanks in Advance.
  7. Thanks.... I am now running my first backup on our new drive. Got in early this morning so i could update the firmware and driver for the Scsi card so i could reboot the Xserve with minimul disruption and is now working a treat.
  8. Thanks for your reply. We have a ATTO UL4D rom revision 1.4.2F1
  9. Hi. We have had a Xserve G5 Os 10.4.11 which has been running a HP Ultrium 960 for some time now which all works well. So we know the Scsi Card works with Retrospect. However we have decided to upgrade our tape drive to a HP Ultrium 1840. We have rebooted both the tape drive and the Xserve. The Xserve can see the tape drive but Retrospect does not detect it. We have installed the latest version of Retrospect 6.1.230 and Driver update 6.1.15.101 and Retrospect still can not detect the tape drive although the Xserve can see it. We are using the same scsi card and cable which worked fine on the HP Ultrium 960. We have 2 Ultriums 1840 and i have tried both incase it was a faulty unit and either of them were detected in Retrospect. I have also set the new 1840 drive with the same Scsi ID as the 960. Any Ideas?
  10. cool, that would be a life saver, any ideas when it will be out?
  11. Slikk Sounds like same problem i am having. see here. http://forums.dantz.com/showtopic.php?fid/16/tid/28025/pid/113894/post/last/#LAST Still not found a solution to the problem yet.

    Urgent help needed please.

I am still having problems. With 7.5 retrospect crashes but can backup the mailboxes. With 7.6 retrospect is stable but cant bacup the mailboxes.

    Urgent help needed please.

Think i found it. Loose on c:\ there is a hidden folder "programdata" and within that there is a retrospect folder. deleting that treats retrospect as a new install and asks for serial numbers and everything again.

    Urgent help needed please.

I'm running server 2008 and there is no "All users" profile. Where would these be located on server 2008?

    Urgent help needed please.

I have uninstalled retrospect and patched it back to 7.5.508. Once again i could see the mailboxes and backup with no errors and then it crashes again while backup, it also crashes if a backup isnt running while in the app. here is the info from assert_log Retrospect detected a failure: This report documents an unusual condition detected by Retrospect’s internal integrity checking.
