  1. David, It was exactly what I was looking for, and I have modified the Disk Set so that it includes both Hard Drives as members for a total backup storage of 13.7TB. This should allow me to backup the primary 8TB storage array for a couple months before I have to recycle the backup set. Thanks for the info, it was very helpful.
  2. So I am trying to understand how using multiple disk media sets with a normal backup script will work. Scenario: I have setup two disk media sets, A and B. I have created a backup script that has a schedule to backup to media set A on M, W, F. The same script that has another schedule to backup to media set B on T, Th, Sat. So what I am looking to figure out is if the backup script is striping the data across both media sets? Or is it simply copying all of the same data to both media sets on a rotating bases? The reason I ask is that the source volume is larger than the destination media sets. So, I would like to stripe the backups across both media sets to accommodate for the size difference. If the above scenario is not appropriate for this, how should I do it instead? Thanks!
  3. To close out this question... I found that the MacMini which is running Retrospect server was "scheduled" to restart every day at 6:00am. Not sure why we had set this up, but that is what was causing this particular error. Thanks for pointing in the right direction. Have a great day! Mac
  4. This is the complete log: --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- + Normal backup using Server_BKP at 12/9/14 (Activity Thread 1) To Backup Set Server_BKP... - 12/9/14 10:00:00 PM: Copying Apollo_Backup on Apollo 12/10/14 6:01:10 AM: Execution stopped by operator Remaining: 499879 files, 27.8 GB Completed: 0 files, 0 B Performance: 0 MB/minute Duration: 08:01:08 (08:00:57 idle/loading/preparing) UAllowSystemSleepAgain: IOPMAssertionRelease failed, err = -53687019 --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I wonder why it idled for 8 hours and didn't time out sooner? Thanks for your time, Mac
  5. I have a similar error message but different circumstances, I will post if I figure out what may be causing it. + Normal backup using Server_BKP at 12/9/14 (Activity Thread 1) To Backup Set Server_BKP... - 12/9/14 10:00:00 PM: Copying Apollo_Backup on Apollo 12/10/14 6:01:10 AM: Execution stopped by operator Remaining: 499879 files, 27.8 GB Completed: 0 files, 0 B Performance: 0 MB/minute Duration: 08:01:08 (08:00:57 idle/loading/preparing) UAllowSystemSleepAgain: IOPMAssertionRelease failed, err = -536870199
  6. We have three OS X servers set to be backed up every night. Intermittently, the backup script fails to complete with the following error message at the bottom. UAllowSystemSleepAgain: IOPMAssertionRelease failed, err = -536870199 Does anyone have any clue as to what the error message is trying to say? The servers are not set to sleep or to shutdown in any manner. The only power saving feature is to turn off the display after 10min. Thanks for your time, Mac
  7. Thanks for the information. I am going to have to work something out with our users/clients. All those situations you listed happen on our network on a dailey bases. Thanks for your time.
  8. Hello, We have a Retrospect 10 server with a proactive backup script, and this error appears in the script logs. "!Trouble reading files, error -519 ( network communication failed ) We have 10 Mac clients all setup to backup proatively. This error appears in the logs for various clients at one time or another. Questions: 1. What could possibly cause this error? 2. Where should I start troubleshooting? Any tips/tricks on isolating the cause, or minimizing it as much as possible so we can get more successful proactive backups. Our Configuration: -Apple MacMini, 2Ghz ZIntel Core 2 Duo, 2GB ram -OSX 10.6.8 -Retrospect server 10.1.0 (221) -Retrospect client 11.0.0 (191) Thanks for your time.
  9. We have had the same problem. Retrospect Server: Mac Mini 2Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo 2GB 1067MHz DDR3 Retrospect server 10.2.0 (201) Mail Server: Mac Mini 2.66Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo OSX Server 10.6.8 Kerio Connect 7.4.3 build 7813. The Kerio Connect software is our "Exchange Like" mail server. Following the previously posted recommendation, I turned off TLS in the smtp services and everything started working fine. To do so: 1. Log into your Kerio Admin Console 2. Go to Configuration -> SMTP Server 3. Click on the SMTP Delivery Tab 4. Uncheck the option for "Use SSL/TLS if supported by remote SMTP server" 5. Click Apply, and close the Admin console Note: This is what Kerio says the setting is for... "Use the following steps to route outbound mail from the Kerio Connect Mail Server through the Barracuda Spam & Virus Firewall." http://techlib.barracuda.com/pages/viewpage.action?pageId=3866685 This is what Microsoft says about SSL/TLS... http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc784450(v=ws.10).aspx It would seem wise to have SSL/TLS enabled on your mail server. I do not think it is a good idea to turn it off because Retro is unable to use it properly.
  10. This intreagues me since I have a couple Drobo-5N NAS devices... It would be nice to use them as backup disks in the future. When you say the NAS is remote, what do you mean? Does it live in the same building and same network? Does it live in another building across town? Does it live on a different switch and subnet mask? If you put both the NAS server and Retro on the same network switch and subnet, does it complete the backup? Where is the data coming from that you are testing with? Is the data hosted on a local hard drive the Retro machine has? Is it on an external hard drive attached to the Retro machine? If you simply drag and drop the data onto the NAS, does the copy complete? From any machine? Thanks Mac
  11. Where are the Retrospect 10 for Mac log files located? When a backup operation is completed or fails, which log files are updated? I want to write a shell script that will check the Retrospect log files on a specified bases, and send out an SMTP update on whether the log files have been modified or not. In theory, the shell script will check the files modification date/time. Based on the schedule of the backups, if the log files have not changed in the expected amount of time, the script will blast out an SMTP message to the admin to check the Retrospect backups. This shell script is a tool to try and figure out whether Retrospect is running normally or hung up. Thanks for your time, Mac Updated* The log file seems to be located at: /Library/Application Support/Retrospect/operations_log.utx

    Proactive Backup Specific User

I deleted him as a source and he would not show back up. So I had him restart his machine. Then he showed up and I added him back as a source. About 10min after that, Retrospect started to back him up. Thanks for your time,
  13. Configuration: Mac Mini OS X 10.5.8 Retrospect v.8.1 build 626 We have setup Retrospect to notify us via email when a script has completed or failed. Usually we get the following via email: Script: ProactiveBackup_Set Date: 2/23/2010 Script "ProactiveBackup_Set" completed successfully -or- Script: ProactiveBackup_Set Date: 2/19/2010 Script "ProactiveBackup_Set" completed with 5 errors We have several machines which are part of the "Proactive" backup. 1) Is there a way to get the email notification to tell me which specific machine was backed up? 2) Is there a way to get the email notification to show me what the errors were on backups that have errors but still completed? Thanks for your time,

    Missing Media Set

Roger, will get on that. Thanks
  15. Is there a way to launch a Proactive backup script so that it backups a specific computer? My bosses computer has not been backed up by the Proactive backup script in more then 3 days. For all accounts, there is no reason for this as it recognizes his computer under "Sources" and his client is "Enabled". All other client computers that are part of this "Proactive" backup are being backed up as expected. Thanks for your time,
