    Waiting for Execution unit

I've owned Retrospect 8, 9, and I just upgraded to10 last week and all versions have periodically done the same thing. Backups work great but then stop with the next "Waiting" backup saying "Waiting for Execution unit" even though no backup is currently running and hasn't run for days. The previous backup (days prior) completed with no errors/issues. I found if I click the "Pause" buttom (to stop all executions) and then click it again to restart things, then my backups continue OK until the next time it gets stuck. I shouldn't have to keep monitoring Retrospect to make sure it is correctly running my scheduled backups and this hasn't been fixed in 3 different versions of Retrospect. Any suggestions, thoughts, or ideas would be appreciated.
  2. Any update on this? I too am having the exact same issue. Having a list of cmds to manually create the same ISO that Retrospect would create would be helpful.
  3. I'll mention that I had this same problem on my Linux box (running client 7.5.112) when Retrospect 7.5 was trying to backup a folder that contained many l10b files (with l10n file names). I added: export LANG=C to my /etc/init.d/rcl file [which is where my file lives] and the client now backs up all the files it previously errored out with. I even restored some of the problem files and they restored OK so this solution worked for me (where the default LANG on my system was "en_US.UTF-8")
  4. Hmm. Surprise surprise, following the recommendation in the form you mentioned which suggested adding: export LANG=C to /etc/init.d/rcl [at least that was where the file exists on my machine] and running a backup, all appears good (the errors I previously saw are gone). I even restored some of the files and compared them (on the Linux machine using "diff") and they all compared OK so it appears that the backup worked. I should mention that the default value on my system was: LANG=en_US.UTF-8 I'll update the other form too. Thanks
  5. Sorry if I posted this in the wrong section. Should I ask this question there (or is there a way to move this to that form)? It wasn't clear whether it was server side or client side (you are right, it is more likely the client side). My client is running version 7.5.112 which appears to be the latest version.

  7. I have a folder on a Linux Retrospect client that contains ISO 8859-1 characters in the filenames and the Retrospect server is producing errors when trying to back up those files. The error I'm seeing is: File "/home/www/phpGedView-4.0beta1/images/flags/réunion.gif": can't read, error -1101 (file/directory not found) There are also files containing Hebrew characters that are also not being backed up. Obviously Retrospect sees the file so what is going on that it can't backup the file?

    Retrospect Updates (7.5) not working

OK. Found the source of the problem (as pointed out by michaeln). My Retrospect server is behind a firewall running squid and squid is only HTTP/1.0 compliant and not HTTP/1.1 compliant. This means that the data Retrospect receives back is 1.0 and Retrospect is barfing on this. I was able to tweak squid to return 1.1 and Retrospect upgrade ran just fine, but that isn't a long term solution since squid can't say it is 1.1 when it really isn't so I had to undo my change. So I would clasify this as a bug with Retrospect in that it requires the upgrade reply to be HTTP/1.1 instead of just accepting the data as is.

    Retrospect Updates (7.5) not working

But 200 is an OK status so how can Retrospect consider that an invalid response? I did install on a second machine and the behavior is identical. I even turned off the firewall on my desktop (ZoneAlarm) to make sure that that wasn't causing the problem and no change. I'm curious whether when your machine retrieves the update file whether that file comes to you using 16 bit characters or not since that is what I am seeing.

Retrospect 7.5 not running after a reboot

OK. Via Retrospect I disabled "Enable Retrospect Launcher service" and in Services see that Retrospect Launcher was removed. I rebooted and via Retrospect selected to re-enable the launcher service and then rebooted (though this 2nd reboot is probably unnecessary since the service started OK). I'll see if the backups run tomorrow morning. Note: I did previously look at the system event logs looking to see if the Retrospect service reported any errors and I didn't see any. All I saw were messages stating that the Retrospect Launcher service entered the running state.

    Retrospect Updates (7.5) not working

    Cool that there are options... OK. Set Networking to 6 I see the following in the log. Don't know if this matters or not, but the file arrives using 16bit characters (thus the odd spacing between characters shown below): httpOpen: connection established http://updates.retrospect.com/en/support/Retrospect/7.5/win/i86/autoupdatesconfig.rtf httpSend: "GET /en/support/Retrospect/7.5/win/i86/autoupdatesconfig.rtf HTTP/1.1" httpOpen: Invalid response HTTP/1.0 200 OK Date: Fri, 15 Sep 2006 14:16:52 GMT Server: Apache/1.3.33 (Win32) Last-Modified: Fri, 08 Sep 2006 18:35:23 GMT ETag: "0-2f70-4501b7eb" Accept-Ranges: bytes Content-Length: 12144 Content-Type: text/rtf Age: 12886 X-Cache: HIT from tcyrus.com Connection: close ÿþR e t r o s p e c t U p d a t e s C o n f i g u r a t i o n F i l e D i g i t a l S i g n a t u r e S i z e B a s e 1 0 = 5 1 2 D i g i t a l S i g n a t u r e B a s e 1 6 = 5 0 6 5 3 F 5 A C 6 0 B 9 5 5 1 6 B C F D 8 F 4 B E D F 3 F 8 A 3 6 D 0 C 8 D 8 8 0 B B 3 0 7 F 1 3 D 0 6 A C D 8 9 4 5 6 2 3 3 8 6 5 5 8 A 7 7 A 5 5 B 1 2 6 C E 0 C 2 7 4 9 D A 8 A 3 A C B 7 7 0 5 C 4 9 E 0 8 4 4 1 C D F 6 6 0 1 F 8 E A A 1 C 0 4 1 A C 2 5 E F 7 D 4 5 9 5 A C 4 F 3 4 3 D 7 5 9 8 A D 7 D 0 6 1 F C 8 0 9 E A 2 F 2 D 5 1 6 B A 5 E E F 1 9 4 0 3 2 9 D 3 C C 7 8 4 4 9 5 4 7 8 9 9 8 5 E 3 B 6 A E B 9 E 6 6 6 1 0 E 3 4 4 E 9 0 0 A B 8 2 A D 6 3 2 2 9 F 3 7 A 2 B E 6 3 0 1 E 2 E 4 2 1 1 2 F A 6 8 4 1 C 8 4 5 6 9 E 7 F 7 3 0 3 C 7 3 9 4 A E 5 1 0 3 A 3 3 3 7 5 3 E 9 7 4 3 4 0 8 C 1 A 2 C F A 0 4 E 5 8 3 0 D 2 7 D 2 2 1 6 8 4 E 7 8 8 9 A 5 C 8 1 E 2 F 8 8 F 2 0 C B 2 0 4 5 B B D 4 3 4 8 2 9 0 9 E C 2 4 0 0 8 5 1 3 E 0 E E 5 A F 1 2 7 D 8 E 0 0 0 2 5 0 5 5 0 E 7 2 A D 4 0 9 E 0 A 8 5 0 9 D 4 C 1 7 0 7 A 5 E 5 6 3 A 7 9 D 8 9 5 6 9 2 B B 3 9 8 6 5 1 2 4 D A 1 A 8 C 6 8 7 F D A 3 B C B 6 6 2 C A 0 A 8 3 2 C F 6 D 2 A 6 A A 9 D F 4 A 5 0 2 8 9 F E 0 8 C A 1 D 0 5 8 F D 8 9 F 9 5 1 2 1 C 6 F 3 5 D B 9 D C T h i s F i l e F o r m a t V e r s i o n = 1 . 0 O S = W i n d o w s P l a t f o r m = i 8 6 L a n g u a g e = 0 x 0 4 0 9 M a j o r . Retrospect 7.5 not running after a reboot

7 Days. I can see when there was a backup done on 9/8/2006 and then today (9/15/2006) when I started Retrospect manually and my system has been up and running 24/7 during that time. It has rebooted several times during that period, but it has been up and running. So a reboot restarts the Retrospect launcher service OK (no problems). Any other suggestions?

    Retrospect Updates (7.5) not working

I can't see how it can be a routing or firewall issue since I can watch the TCP connection and I see the http request going out and the requested file coming back without any errors followed by a nice close of the TCP connection. The file requested by Retrospect is indeed being returned, it just seems that Retrospect is doing something "odd" with it such that Retrospect isn't recognizing it and assumes an error. In a command window on the same machine I can run wget of the same URL and all works just fine so no firewall/routing issues. I wish that Retrospect would tell me more (like put it into a debug mode or something) about what the real problem is.
  14. After a reboot of my WinXP Pro system, I see the Retrospect 7.5.324 icon in the system tray, but no backups run. When I select the Retrospect icon from the system tray and open Retrospect, the first thing Retrospect says is that there are scripts that need to be run, and then it starts running them (after a pause allowing me time to stop the auto run). I see two Retrospect services: - RetroLauncher (...retrorun.exe) - Retrospect Helper (...rthlpsvc.exe) but only RetroLauncher is running (both are set to auto start) In Preferences->Execution->Startup the "Enable Retrospect Launcher service" is enabled as well as "Automatically launch Retrospect" is enabled. "Exit" is selected as well as "Show taskbar icon" After a reboot my system should auto run the backup scripts without me needing to manually start Retrospect. What is mis-configured (because at one point I do believe that backups were auto running)?
  15. I'm running 7.5.324 and when I attempt to auto update Retrospect I always receive the error: Could not connect to the Retrospect Automatic Updates site. Please make sure that you can access the internet from this computer. If you use a proxy server to connect to the internet, please make sure it is properly configured in the Updates section of the Retrospect prefences. I know that the network connection works since I run Ethereal to watch the network traffic and I can see the outgoing http request (to http://updates.retrospect.com/en/support/Retrospect/7.5/win/i86/autoupdatesconfig.rtf ) and the incoming file so the requested file is received, but still Retrospect says that there is an error. Any ideas on what is going on? I'm tired of having to manually update my system.
