    -2303 ERROR

I am trying to do a full backup of the c: drive so I can prepare a DR DVD. All I get is.. "Can't select files, error -2303 (Selector condition file system not available)" and then it stops. Using the wizard or advanced changes nothing... when I select run now option, it acts like it is doing something, but the log shows it can't select any of the files... any ideas? Almost ready togo back to MS Backup... at least that works and I can restore when I need to.... seems all my problems started with the v7 Professional "upgrade"... no open file backups, no full backups.. the only thing I can do is backup specific directories via scripts and I was able to get a duplicate c: backup.. but only with open file backup turned off. Very frustrated user... and a backup should NOT be this difficult for a BACKUP program... XP Pro - SP 2 Dell M70 Laptop Maxtor 300GB External HDD with OneTOUCH (that also doesn't work) Firewire 800

    Retrospect 7 for Windows Released

Several updates since upgrading to v7 professional and still the open file backup does NOT work for XP Pro SP2. Is there any updates as to when this feature will work or has it been dropped off the "to do" list? If it is not going to work, what steps do I take to get the most reliable DR backup. I would like to be able to test restoring to a replacement drive on my laptop so I know HOW to do this and that when I need to be able to use it, I will know that it works. Until I can get a successful DR recovery working on a new drive, I don't have a good backup or DR plan in place. Thanks for any words of wisdom... Backup to HDD

Nate, Just discovered another issue... I am trying to retrieve specific zip files from an old backup... the catalog rebuild from DVD went smoothly, but when I choose find files and retrieve, all that happens it the message "Preparing to execute..." and nothing. As far as I can tell, there is no open-file setting to turn off, is there anything else I can check to see why it won't retrieve the file? Do I have to "restore" it instead? TIA, Rick

    Backup to HDD

It backs up with the Open File option turned off. But if I tunr Open File on with any options.. it goes into hang mode and I have to kill the process to get out from it... It is like it hits an open file and can't get past it. When I check the event logs, I see the following: Event Type: Error Event Source: VSS Event Category: None Event ID: 12289 Date: 11/14/2005 Time: 12:23:03 AM User: N/A Computer: NARNIA Description: Volume Shadow Copy Service error: Unexpected error CreateFileW(\\?\Volume{62c53942-005a-11da-806f-806d6172696f},0xc0000000,0x00000003,...). hr = 0x80070005. Serious ERROR writes to assert_log.utx

Nate, I found the option to turn off Open File Backup and I am now able to get a backup... is there a reason why Open File Backup is not working on XP, SP2, NTFS? Thanks! Rick PS - I am trying a Open File Backup with the stop option turned on and the wait down 1 1 ms and 1 min accordingly.. will report on how that turns out...

    Backup to HDD

Hi Nate, I am running XP professional, SP2. I am still not able to backup anything. I have tried to create a new backup set to DVD and even tht just hangs with the message "Immediate Backup: Preparing for Open File Backup..." The last attempt ran for the entire weekend and nothing happened. The DVD is a TDK 440N, the HDD is a Maxtor external 180GB - One Touch. This is running on a Dell Precsion M70 laptop. The DVD backups worked great until I upgraded from 6.5 to 7... the backup to HDD has never worked. I have been able to recreate the catalogs from the old DVD's to a v7 version. Hope you can help! Rick

    Serious ERROR writes to assert_log.utx

Nate, I found the solution in another post - when I did the last upgrade I forgot to move the old .rdu out... soon as I did, the program started backup. This puts me back to the original problem... no backups have completed successfully since I moved off 6.5 pro. I can recreate the catalogs for v7 pro, but the backup itself goes to "Preparing for Open File Backup..." and stays there for days unless I quit or reboot. Any ideas? Backup is to Maxtor external HDD, Dell laptop... worked with v6.5 pro... TIA! Rick

    Backup to HDD

I recently upgraded to v7 professional and am trying to backup to a Maxtor external drive. The execution screen shows one execution running and the message "Preparing for Open File Backup..." and it stays there until I reboot or exit Retrospect. Any ideas? So far, the only thing I have been able to do since I upgraded is to recreate the old catalogs as new v7 catalogs... no backups have been successful. Rick

    Retrospect 7 for Windows Released

I found it.. buried deep under document & settings folder under the login username tree...
  12. I recently upgraded to v7 and it worked great... after installing the latest update, I tried to start Retrospect and got the following: Retrospect has encountered a serious error: A log of this error has been written to the file "assert_log.utx". Please tell Dantz about this problem. We have created an error report that can help us improve Dantz Retrospect. We will treat this report as confidential and anonymous. Send the error report? Yes No I have said YES to this a dozen times and have received NO response from Dantz.. no I take that back... I received ONE response telling me that they no longer provided tech suppport via email, but since I had just upgraded, I could get ONE no-charged support call. Since it DOES NOT WORK.. it is NOT a tech support issue... Anyone else getting th cold shoulder or NO response for this problem?
