  1. Hi They were added by DNS name and have been working happily for about 18 months, a few have a different ip address and some have a static ip address. The clients haven't been changed at all.
  2. Hi all, I hope you can help with my very frustrating problem. I am running retrospect version 6.1.126 on a new imac. I am getting three or four windows machine's that seem to "get lost" and stop being backed up. When I go to configure clients and open them up and go to configure I get "sorry, can't connect to backup client. error 541 (client not installed or not running)" If I go the the window's machine to check, the client is on. The only way to fix it at the moment is for the windows machine to be rebooted. This lasts for a couple of days and then it starts all over again! They are windows xp professional with retrospect client 7 We are a uni so are using a lan. Some have fixed IP addresses, some have DHCP. Please help

It has one ethernet card and was installed via rpm. we've tried commenting out that line and it still doesn't work.

    linux clients keeps deferring automatically

we've tried that, it didn't work. we tried to look at the retroclient.sh and the machine was having a problem with java, would this be related?

Its a RHEL 3 WS == Red Hat Enterprise Linux 3. Hope that makes more sense to you than to me!
  9. I am using retrospect v6.0.204 on a mac. I have installed two linux clients and it has run smoothly. My third one keeps just deferring. I don't know linux but the person who does, doesn't know why. He looked in the log and got "Apr 26 16:16:41 machinename Retrospect[1839]:ConnWriteData: send() failed with error 9". One for each time it was deferred. Earlier in the log there was Apr 25 14:21:19 machinename Retrospect[20242]: iplud: bound to address 0.0.0.0 Apr 25 14:21:19 machinenameRetrospect[20242]: ipludAddMembership: adding membership for 0.0.0.0 Apr 25 14:21:25 machinename Retrospect[20242]: IPNSRegister(1): registered: "machinenameetc.uk"/"932fe2fce45ead95" Apr 25 14:21:31 machinename Retrospect[20242]: IPNSRegister(1): registered: "machinenameetc.uk"/"bf519cfce45ead95" Apr 25 15:03:41 machinename su(pam_unix)[20147]: session closed for user root Apr 25 17:41:26 machinename Retrospect[20242]: ServicePurge: service not found Apr 25 17:41:26 machinename Retrospect[20242]: ServicePurge: service not found Apr 25 17:41:45 machinename Retrospect[20242]: IPNSRegister(0): registered: "machinename "/"bf519cfce45ead95" Apr 25 17:41:45 machinename Retrospect[20242]: ServicePurge: service not found Apr 25 17:41:47 machinename kernel: application bug: retroclient(22027) has SIGCHLD set to SIG_IGN but calls wait().
