  1. Three drives / System / Data_share1 / Data_Share2 the data drive 1 had a hardware failure so I replaced the drive formatted Mac OS Extended and restored to that drive from the backup WD FW drive housing the Retrospect backup. Rick
  2. Lennart, Thanks for the reply. I'll attach the portion of the log I received. Duplicate files yes, but I was restoreing an entire disk to a clean new hard drive so I'm not sure how there could have been duplicate files in different locations. That's what's confusing... I asked the person if they possibly stopped the restore ands restarted but haven't heard back. Thanks for your input. Rick
  3. Hello: Retrospect 6.1.230 Mac OSX server 10.5.5 backing up to a WD FW drive. Had to restore an entire disk after a failure. Replaced the drive and started the restore. 650GB restored...Then got 600 files with the following error: File "UniveConBol": can't duplicate to "UniveConBol" , general error Fonts, Jpegs and tiffs. Any ideas on this one. Thanks, Rick
  4. David, thanks so much for responding. Yes that is the screen where it hangs. It hangs weather I just select the default file name and location or select another location for the catalog file. the spinning beach ball turns and turns, in the Activity monitor it said " retrospect not responding" sometimes it will do that then after say 5 minutes it says in red " file name already exists" But will never let me create a new file. just " not responding" There is nothing else eating up the CPU either most of the time it's 90% idle. it also hangs if I try to create a media set, always "retrospect not responding" do you have anything hanging off the XServe? Yes, there is an Apple Xraid and a Drobo (I'd like to backup to the Drobo). I had this problem before the DROBO was attached. Other things that are "wonky" with Retrospect is that when I open the console app, it's not consistent with giving me the server info, I'll close the app and reopen and all the info is there, sources etc.. Retrospect use to be solid as a rock, I just hope I'm doing something wrong here. Any other ideas.
  5. Hello: I hope this is something I've done wrong. I've worked with Retrospect for many years but I've had nothing but trouble with the OSX versions of this product. This particular issue is on an apple Xserve Quad-core 2.26Ghz with 12GB of memory running 10.5.8. I've installed and un-installed several times with the same results. The app opens up I see the console. If i try to add a media set the windows drops down. I see the window " accessing " with a frozen gear. I go into the Activity Monitor and the Retrospect Process says " not responding ". I have to kill the process. Anything I try to do beyond the main console screen has the same result. Has anyone experienced this issue and can it be resolved? I don't want to tell the customer that we need to upgrade to 9 for $400 to fix this. Thank you, Rick
  6. It looks like it's the device that's bad. Thanks Tamberg tech support is A-1.
  7. Can someone help me with an issue of Retrospect 8.2 on Mac 10.5.8 trying to backup to a Exabyte VXA Packet loader. ( Sorry for the type-o in the header.) Retrospect sees the device, lets me erase the tapes, one by one. When I attempt to write data to the tapes it always give me a flashing question mark, select media. When I select one of the tapes it just keeps flashing...needs media. I even used the backup assistant and it added each tape as a member of the media set, 9 members. I say backup and it keeps saying needs media. Does this device need the advanced drive add on? If so, O.K. but why would it see tapes / Erase them but not write to them? If It's something I'm doing wrong, please let me know, but I've been working with 8.2 on other machines and backup devices and I haven't had these issues. thanks, Rick
  8. Thanks for the post. I will check that out. Rick
  9. Dave and crew, thanks for your response. I'm sorry that I didn't include sufficient information. I have 7 installations of Retrospect 8.2 running. The three backing up to tape have no problems. The four installs that are causing issues are running Retrospect 8.2 are backing up to disk backups. They all run on Intel based Apple Xserves running Mac OSX server 10.6, two backup to Netgear Network attached storage units, mounted on the desktop of each server and the other backup to DROBO network attached storage units connected via iScsi connections. I run the console and the engines on the same machines via apple remote desktop. I create media sets on the Nas devices. I have two types of scripts, one script backs up the server drives and another script backs up the clients at each location. The Server scripts never have an issue but the client backups writing to the same device get an error DEVICE BUSY ( the pencil with the line thru) in the Media list and asks for media action when backing up, but no matter what you select it never runs. There are no other scripts running when this happens. I have to delete the media set and start all over again. On one of the Intel 10.6 Xserves, the application runs slow as a DOG and if I go to activity monitor, the app is constantly (not responding) I've un installed the application and associated files and the same result. The only things running on the box are FileMaker server and apple file sharing, that's it. please let me know if you need other information.
  10. Sorry I accidentally posted this in the PRE-8 Retrospect forum. Can anyone tell me why my media sets always come up busy? Retrospect 8.2 at this point is unusable. I backup to a Drobo NAS, Retrospect works one time then marks the backup media as busy. I open Retrospect and 50% of the time it does not fill in any info on the Console. I have to stop the Engine ( if it lets me ) and restart the whole process. I've used Retrospect for over ten years an various client sites but I'm having a hard time to recommend this product to another customer. I have this same behavior occurring at two separate locations. Mac Server 10.6/ Retrospect 8.2 Server and client backups. I've uninstalled and re-installed several times, no difference.

  12. Retrospect Engine Keeps Stopping

Xserve 10.6.4 8.2.0 Retrospect The Engine stops - I re-start 10 seconds later The engine stops again. No raid card. Removed the com.emc.retrospect.plist restarted no change. Any advise?
  13. Access to Tech Support

Robin - Thanks that worked! Now if I could get Retrospect to work! Sorry Cheap shot. Just FYI - The people answering the phones at EMC instruct you to go to www.roxio.com then tech support. I called twice and they told me the same thing. I want to be able to continue to suggest this product to my customers, Version 8 has been - very trying. Rick
