  1. Hello: I have Retrospect 10.5.0 Server with 20 client license. Normally when I need to add a client, I go to source > add and a window opens that has Clients selected and Source from interface: Default and Use Multicast. I usually see a list of all the clients here but now nothing shows. I can still add clients directly using an IP, then do the backup, but for some reason multicast isn't working. Same with use subnet broadcast. iMac OS 10.10.2 On a LAN Retrospect 10.5.0 (145) Thanks, Jim
  2. I have been searching through a backup set and retrieving certain points in time. The date I had started with did not contain the files I was looking for (they had apparently been deleted by then). So I try the next date back in time. For the date I really think I need, I get the error "Can't retrieve snapshot for Session". If I rebuild the media set, will this produce a new snapshot for that particular session? Thanks Much Mac OS 10.10 Retrospect 10.5.0
  3. Thanks Much, Lennart! Worked like a charm. jmedley
  4. Hello: I'm trying to restore an email inbox from last year. My plan was to restore it to my desktop, then use import on Mail.app. When I do this I see a folder User/username/ and that its. I can tell its there because of its size when I select get info on the folder, but I can't see it. Suggestions? Mac OS 10.10.1 Retrospect 10.5.0
  5. FYI .. I removed Retrospect Client version 11.0.0 and installed Client version 10.2. That got rid of the message "NetConnMacX::Setup: version too old," and it now seems to be appending instead of trying to backup the entire drive. Thanks
  6. For some reason the problem has started again. For a test this time, I have created a folder 2.4 GB in size on the computer and have created a retrospect script to backup that folder every hour. It has backed up twice now and it copied the entire folder again. So now the backup size is 5.1 GB. In trying to diagnose this problem I saw something in the log I tried to look up but couldn't find anything relateing it to Retrospect. The entry in the log is “NetConnMacX::Setup: version too old,". Below is a copy of the log for the second backup ... Normal backup using My-Test at 8/18/14 (Activity Thread 2) To Backup Set My-Test... NetConnMacX::Setup: version too old, - 8/18/14 9:00:00 AM: Copying Jim's Test on Jim’s Computer Using Instant Scan 8/18/14 9:01:50 AM: Snapshot stored, 1.8 MB 8/18/14 9:01:52 AM: Comparing Jim's Test on Jim’s Computer 8/18/14 9:02:24 AM: Execution completed successfully Completed: 6180 files, 2.4 GB Performance: 4,255.6 MB/minute (3,968 copy, 4,736 compare) Duration: 00:02:24 (00:01:14 idle/loading/preparing)
  7. Hi, just wanted to let you know that the problem was corrected. We had had a power failure and when power came back the G-Raid thunderbolt external drive did not come back up. Since I was having problems with backups I had ask the use to make sure his own TimeMachine backups were running. Thats when he found the problem with the G-Raid thunderbolt external drive. He booted it up, TimeMachine started updating and on the next scheduled Retrospect backup, everything ran well. Not sure what TimeMachine/G-Raid thunderbolt external drive had to do with Retrospect, but problem solved.
  8. So, unchecking "Use attribute modification date when matching" didn't stop Retrospect from doing another complete backup last night. One thing I realized yesterday was that the Mac with the problem is the only Mac I backup that uses Time Machine. The Time Machine backups go to a G-Raid thunderbolt external drive. In fact, I believe this problem may have started about the time he started using the G-Raid thunderbolt external drive. I can't imagine what the difference might be between using it and some other external drive. Thanks for any advice. PS. I did do the update to Retrospect 10.5
  9. Thanks! I'll give this a try after updating to 10.5.
  10. I'm running Retrospect 10.2 Server on a Mac OS 10.9.4, and backing up about 15 computers. I having a problem with one of the Macs I backup, which is also running OS 10.9.4. I have it set to backup this computer every night at 10 PM. The problem is that Retrospect wants to backup the entire computer everytime. As if all files on the computer have changed somehow. The computer has about 400 GB, so I get 2 backups before I have to create a new media set. I only have this problem with this one Mac. I backup 5 other Macs without any problems. Can someone tell me where to start looking? Thanks!
  11. I backup about 20 computers and have been having a problem with one. It is a network backup and shows as responding in the client list but when I click to configure or run script I get the error 541 "client not installed or not running". I just backed up this computer two days ago and all was fine. Confusing that its responding but not running at the same time. Thanks for any help. The specs... Retrospect 6.1.230 on iMac OS 10.6.6 the client is .. Retro. Client 6.2.234 on iMac OS 10.6.6
  12. David: I let mine go over night and it was completed the next morning. I'm not sure what the total time was, but I would say something over 12 hrs. I started about 9 am and left work at 4:30 with it still going. Yes, this is definitely something that Dantz needs to look into. Good luck, Jim
  13. Did you ever finish restoring? I am trying to restore entire disk on an iMac 10.5.5 using the latest version of retrospect (230). Says remaining is zero, but its been saying that for a few hours now. I am going to go ahead and let it run over night to see if it will actually finish. Seems to show the same files over and over. One thing I know is that it doesn't work if you stop it (tried a couple of times already). Jim
  14. First, I promise I didn't do anything to fix the problem. I have manually gone through and backed up each of the computers that I have scripts for (all 16) with no problems. And last night and this morning most of the backups have been completed again as scheduled, also with no problems. Its nice when the computer/software fixes itself. Thanks for the input, Jim
  15. Hi Dave, The backup set type is normal(?). It is a scheduled backup which occurs 3 times a week. The exact wording for the first errors I saw in the log were: ∆ Retrospect version 6.1.230 automatically launched at 11/14/2008 11:45 AM + Retrospect Driver Update, version + Normal backup using Randy's Mac 3 at 11/14/2008 11:45 AM Can't add to backup set Randy's 10-8-08: The catalog is locked. 11/14/2008 11:45:36 AM: Execution incomplete. + Normal backup using RobertXP at 11/14/2008 12:00 PM Can't add to backup set Robert's 10-8-08: The catalog is locked. 11/14/2008 12:00:20 PM: Execution incomplete. + Normal backup using Wendy's Backup at 11/14/2008 12:10 PM Can't add to backup set Wendy's 10-8-08: The catalog is locked. 11/14/2008 12:10:21 PM: Execution incomplete. + Executing Verify at 11/14/2008 12:17 PM To backup set Randy's 10-8-08… Can't save catalog, error -46 (volume is soft locked). 11/14/2008 12:17:16 PM: Execution incomplete. Quit at 11/14/2008 12:30 PM As you can see, there is 1 Mac and 2 PC's. The first message was catalog is locked and when I tried to verify catalog, I got the -46 volume is soft locked message. On another note .... this morning I came in to see this error, another which I've never heard of (and I've using retrospect to backup for a few years now). + Normal backup using Reception at 11/17/2008 8:05 AM To backup set Reception 10-8-08… 11/17/2008 8:05:02 AM: Connected to Reception - 11/17/2008 8:05:01 AM: Copying Macintosh HD on Reception… Can't add that much data to backup set. Remaining: 694 files, 89.1 MB Completed: 0 files, zero KB Performance: 0.0 MB/minute Duration: 00:18:57 (00:18:46 idle/loading/preparing) As you can see, the backup of Jeanie's computer should have only required 89.1 MB, but it shows that it exceed a limit of 2 GB, and I have know idea where the limit thing came from. I am backing up to a LaCie 2 TB external drive that shows to have 1.1 TB free space. Thanks Much for the help, Jim
