    SQL 2014 Backup

http://www.retrospect.com/en/documentation/user_guide/win/sql_server_agent This post seems to indicate that Retrospect 9.5 will ONLY backup SQL server 2005 or OLDER. Can you confirm that? ALL of the OS and SQL server products listed in the supported column are end of life products MANY years ago. Are you seriously saying you don't support a current shipping SQL product from,Microsoft? I can "see" the SQL database, but when I try to select it for backup, it says authentication failed... I am using SQL Server 2014.
  2. This is a known issue. See http://forums.dantz.com/showtopic.php?tid/30875/ You can work around this issue by killing retrospect using the task manager (ctrl-alt-del) and ending the retrospect task. You see this message when retrospect as stop for some reason (new media needed, can find a catalog, a bad catalog, etc). Any thing that requires some type of user intervention causes this. You have to end the task (and abort the backup) and then investigate the issue by starting a manual backup to see what the error is.

    Retrospect Activity Monitor

It seems the main subject for this post has been disabled, and no longer accepts posts. Regardless of what you are saying, this issues is NOT **REPEAT NOT** a vista issue. I have seen it happen many many times on many machines. From a windows 2000 machine, to a 2000 server, to XP, Windows Server 2003, 2008 server. Again, NOT a Vista issue or a windows issue. It does seem to be worse on a Vista OS with 64 bit, but it is NOT exclusive to Vista OR 64 bit. This behavior was NOT seen in version 7.5 on all of the above OS versions. With the exception of the 64 bit, going back to 7.5 resolves the issue. Renaming the monitor program does not resolve the issue, as you just get a message saying it is running in another instance. You have to kill the task. Again, this issue makes media changes almost impossible. Open and leaving it running defeats the purpose of having an automated backup solution running as a task. I think we have all been very patient with this issue. It is time to stop making excuses, and resolve this issue. There are many many posts regarding this issue. I LOVE your product. I sell it with about 1/2 of all of the computers we sell (yes even home machines). But the response to this issue is seriously compromising your image (and your customers good faith in you), as you have seen by several posts in this forum. Please acknowledge the issue, stop making excuses and resolve this issue.

Vista , 7.6 and Activity Monitor

You have had more than six months to correct the monitor issue with retrospect. You have not even really acknowledged a problem with the retrospect monitor. I need an answer as to the solution to this problem, and a reasonable time frame to correct. If you are unable to provide that, I would like a refund so I can purchase a product that is functional.

Vista , 7.6 and Activity Monitor

I have seen this issue on several machines. It is more of a problem with a 64 bit os, and is more of a problem with Vista, but I have seen it with 32 bit XP as well. The problem is that if you are NOT logged in, and retrospect launches, and can not complete for some reason - ie you need new media, etc. Then, when you login, the program just launches the monitor. If you restart and are FAST enough so that the next scheduled task does not start before you login, you can go into retrospect. But, if there is another scheduled backup then you launch the program after that has started as a service, you will get the same monitor again. You can end the tasks Retro in the task manager and launch Retrospect, or restart enough times until all of your schedule backups stop. Sometimes, I have seen this problem which requires you to reinstall the software. But, most of the time you can just end the tasks. But, this is a very annoying feature to 7.6. This is not happen in 7.5 It would be very nice

    1017 error

I did try to set the username and password in the security section, but it fails..... and I can not put it in. I also saw a tech note about changing the user from local in the service section, and tried this too, but it did not work either... I did leave the computer name blank, which it sounded like I should if not on a NT Domain server. However, other posts seem to indicated I should put the computer name in there. I will try that and let you know if it works any better! BTW, the user that is logged in at the time of the back IS an admin user... but it still fails.... If you FIRST go into Retrospect, and do the check media, it works FINE. But it is when it tries to auto start that there is a problem...

    1017 error

I am using W2K pro with retrospect 6.5 I am backing up to an external USB drive on a networked PC. If I go into retrospect and do a check media, it works As long AS I stay in retrospect, It also does a backup However, if I exit retrospect, when it tries to backup to the device, I get the message to pick My backup device. when I try to connect It asks for My username and password, but give A message that I hare insufficient rights, use explorer. I can access the drive in explorer. But an auto-started retrospect can't. But if I logoff, log back into retrospect and stay in Retrospect the backup work fine. I tried to set the user in security, but It also fails - saying it can't set user preferences. any ideas on has to fix this?
