  1. I'm not sure, not intentionally. Where would I check for those debugging settings? I get spurts of responsiveness. For about 10-15 seconds, I can zip about the UI, then spinning ball again.
  2. The performance issues is seen both working on the server machine locally as well as over the local gigabit wired network. Here is the ping time to the server over ethernet. Ping has started… PING pikserver.com ( 56 data bytes 64 bytes from icmp_seq=0 ttl=64 time=0.035 ms 64 bytes from icmp_seq=1 ttl=64 time=0.087 ms 64 bytes from icmp_seq=2 ttl=64 time=0.104 ms 64 bytes from icmp_seq=3 ttl=64 time=0.091 ms 64 bytes from icmp_seq=4 ttl=64 time=0.086 ms 64 bytes from icmp_seq=5 ttl=64 time=0.094 ms 64 bytes from icmp_seq=6 ttl=64 time=0.090 ms 64 bytes from icmp_seq=7 ttl=64 time=0.090 ms 64 bytes from icmp_seq=8 ttl=64 time=0.092 ms 64 bytes from icmp_seq=9 ttl=64 time=0.087 ms --- ping statistics --- 10 packets transmitted, 10 packets received, 0.0% packet loss round-trip min/avg/max/stddev = 0.035/0.086/0.104/0.018 ms
  3. Quite frustrating. I've been working with this software all morning. I've now completely uninstalled Retrospect on the server and re-installed. I can't go 5 minutes in the console either locally or over the network (macbook air 10.8.3) with out it freezing completely up. Moving from one function to the next results in endless spinning beach balls. At this stage I'm simply trying to re-establish media sets and log clients in. I can't get a configuration working to even start to back up. I've been working with the various versions of Retro 8 since 8.0, so I know the basics, this version is just SO slow and buggy, I can't get it running. HELP!!!!!!!!!!!
  4. I finally had the courage to try a 10.1 upgrade (from 8.2) on two of my clients. The 10.1 console does report that it can monitor the other 8.2 engines with "limited support". The 8.2 console (running on the same computer) admins the 8.2 engines and doesn't get it's prefs trampled by the 10.1 console. THANK YOU! I can now proceed to get each company to upgrade on their own schedule, while maintaining a sane method of administering the varying engine versions.
  5. I'm in the same boat. I manage five different clients, all running Retrospect 8. I can't upgrade one without upgrading all. So everyone is stuck at V8. The odds of getting all five companies to upgrade at once is nil. What is so difficult in having each console version just use their own separate pref files? Seems trivial.

    Retro 9 Upgrade Pricing Feedback

Complaints about the outrageous pricing aside, does Retrospect 9 actually work? Are all the serious V8 bugs fixed now? If I recommend another $1000 upgrade that doesn't work, I'm out of a job.

Can't set any scripts to run in the AM

THANK YOU!l I don't know what's dumber, Retrospect for handling it this way or me for not figuring that out. Trying to set up a script to do something everyday at a certain time should not be dependent on what date box you have clicked on the little calendar there. OK, I've decided, it's Retrospect that's dumber
  8. Upon editing some existing scripts, I noticed that I can not set an AM time for the script schedule. Changing the time in the Schedule dialog to AM will not reflect in the actual schedule summary above. Any PM time can be set. Existing scripts run in the AM but if I edit one, I can no longer set an AM time that "sticks". I've tried a brand new script - same issue. I have reproduced this issue on two separate Retrospect installations at two different locations that I administer.
  9. We run LTO4 with a Quantum SAS drive. Had a similar issue when we switched to Retrospect 8. We switched from Quantum tapes to Sony tapes and now get 2-3 times the capacity. Go figure...
  10. Retrospect 8.2 OSX Server 10.6.4, intel Xserve Just upgraded our Xserve from 10.5.8 to 10.6.4. Since the upgrade, Retrospect Engine keeps stopping and has to be restarted 2-3 times a day. I uninstalled Retrospect via the uninstaller and re-installed 8.2 late night. No dice, the engine was stopped again this morning.

    Retrospect Engine Keeps Stopping

That's not the situation the rest of us on this thread are seeing. The Engine will run for hours and crashes sometime at the end of a Time Machine backup of the server itself. Try to look at the logs in the 10 seconds the engine is running.

    Retrospect Engine Keeps Stopping

that is the case with me as well. TM off, no RetroEngine stops.

Tape set suddenly has no members

Solved my own issue. The catalog file was corrupt. Luckily I am running Time Machine BU's of the server HD in addition to Retrospect. I was able to step back a few hours to an uncorrupted catalog file. This is why I run TM on the server HD. Now if Roxio would just fix the TM/Retro engine stopping bug, I'd be set.
  14. Retrospect 8.2 latest build. Quantum LTO tape drive, OSX server 10.6.4. I have a tape set that has 8 members. Suddenly Retrospect is reporting that there are 0 members (see attached screen shot). It has the total number of files, size, etc correct but no members. When the script runs, Retro asks for tape number "unknown". I selected "verify" and "repair" in the media set window. Both actions seem to do nothing. Suggestions? I would try rebuilding but I assume that would take days.

    Retrospect Engine Keeps Stopping

I will try that on my setup and confirm

    Retrospect Engine Keeps Stopping

Are you running Time Machine as well on your Mini? Don't know if it was just a coincidence or not but the RetroEngine just crashed when a Time Machine backup started on my setup. I've got a ticket in with Roxio on this issue but I haven't heard back from them yet.

    Retrospect Engine Keeps Stopping

Ok it seems to have nothing to do with a particular task running. I've watched clients backup via a proactive script all day. No crashes. I've forced the server RAID backup, no crashes. I was just looking at the console, nothing was being backed up and the RetroEngine just crashed. 8/27/10 11:07:53 PM com.roxio.RetroEngine[54870] Assertion failure at "module.cpp-1063", on threadID 0x5A01000 8/27/10 11:07:53 PM com.apple.launchd[1] (com.roxio.RetroEngine[54870]) Exited with exit code: 255 Come on, there has to be a solution to this. This is expensive software.

    Retrospect Engine Keeps Stopping

Wow that would be unfortunate. 8.2 in general is SO much more stable than 8.1. At least until this issue... I've been watching it all day and so far OK. If it's the RAID issue, I'm guessing that it will fail when the server RAID itself is backed up at Midnight.

    Retrospect Engine Keeps Stopping

Yes, it has an Apple RAID card in it. It had been working fine with 8.2 on the same machine when it was running 10.5.8
  20. Since switching to Retrospect 8 we've been noticing that our LTO tape usage has increased dramatically. Looking closer at the media set usage, it appears that R8 is not filling up the tapes as it did with v 6.1.
  21. I'd like to move the location of my catalog file (using LTO4 tape) to another drive on the Retrospect server. I tried the 6.1 trick of copying the file and double clicking it. The Media Set information in Retro 8 still says it's pointing to the old location (Library/Application Support/...)

    Moving tape Catalog file location

Thanks, I NEVER would have figured that out intuitively.

    Can't delete Source

Latest 8.1 builds of the Retrospect Engine and Console Running on an Xserve 2 x 3 GHZ Quad core Intel Xenon, OS X Server 10.5.8. 6GB RAM Accessing the Engine via a MacBook Pro 17" 2.33, 4GB RAM running OS 10.6.1. Latest Build of Retrospect 8.1. 6.2.234 WAS the version of the client. As I stated, the client computer no longer exists. P.S. I have tried deleting the client from the copy of Retrospect Console running directly on the Xserve as well. It exhibits the Confirmation dialog OK/no action syndrome as well but does not result in the spinning beach ball.

    Can't delete Source

I have a laptop client source that won't remove. It has the little Pencil icon on it's status and says it's busy. When I try to delete it, it either allows me to click OK to the confirmation and then remains in the list or hangs the Retrospect Console with athe spinning beach ball. The actual client laptop no longer exists and I'd like to remove reverence to it in the Sources list.
  25. Installed Retro Client 6.2.229 on a MacBook Pro running 10.5.4. Client worked for one backup then retrospect 6.1.230 in backup server mode no longer sees the client. It is turned on. Going to configure client from the server, it initially sees the client then errors with a client not visible on the network. I have tried uninstalling the client. Forgetting it. Re-installing. Again it works for one backup then repeats the same pattern described above.
