  1. It does appear that what I want can be achieved by bypassing the program's own email notification options and using a script to achieve the notifications: https://github.com/retrospectinc/script-hooks/tree/master/Email Notifier I still believe this should be a checkbox that can be checked/unchecked in the user interface rather than needing an external script to control what email notifications are sent out though.
  2. On PCs, standard Wake-On-LAN packets can wake computers from ACPI S5 (powered off, but the mains power socket on the wall is still on). This function is not available for Macs, which can only be woken from shallower sleep states.
  3. Oh it looks like I'd posted it in the wrong forum, that's why I didn't find it in a search. But anyway yes you're correct, we're now running 15.1 and it still isn't a thing. Having an email rule to remove those -519 emails is a workaround but it's not a long-term solution. A web console is all very well, but it won't create a ticket in our ticketing system when something happens which we need to know about (such as disk space running out), where an email will. With regard to the Proactive backup, that's what we have set up at the moment, but it is still giving us the -519 errors. It's my understanding with Mac clients that Wake-on-Lan can only work if the Macs are in sleep mode, not if they are switched off, so we haven't been enabling Wake-on-Lan.
  4. This definitely needs to be a thing, after getting our Retrospect server back up and running after a system drive crash I am having to clear out old snapshots from machines we no longer have so that there's enough space to back up our new machines and it's such a longwinded process.
  5. At the moment, Retrospect's email notification system is very all-or-nothing, with only broad, high level categories to choose from. It's also very chatty/spammy in that it sends an individual, separate email for every single notification event. It would be good if a) emails could be batched up into a "digest" format that could be sent once every few minutes rather than getting 15+ separate emails within the space of a few seconds and b) if there could be some way to have choices about subcategories of emails. For example, I don't want to be notified about -519 errors, as these usually occur if a client is turned off when Retrospect is trying to back it up, but I do want to be notified about media errors. 6. We've recently had to rebuild our Retrospect server due to a hardware failure. This time, we decided to enable email notifications so that we will get more timely notifications of issues, however we're finding that it's quite spammy (we are getting a lot of messages about communication failures between the server and a client, which we don't necessarily care about). Is there any more granular way to select what we get notified about by email? Ideally we just want notifications for big problems like being unable to write to the server hard drives or having no disk space left (waiting for media) but there doesn't seem to be a way to select just those kinds of errors to be alerted about. We are running Retrospect Single Server version 11.5.0.190 on Windows Server 2012 R2. Thanks, Dan Jackson (Lead ITServices Technician) Long Road Sixth Form College Cambridge, UK.
  7. Thanks, that's been helpful - I didn't realise that corresponded to Windows event codes. I've now looked in the event logs and identified it as most likely being an issue with the hard drive the catalogue file was being written to. Thanks for your advice.
  8. I have Retrospect 9.5.3.103 on Windows Server 2012 R2. I'm trying to rebuild the catalogue (again) so I can restore some files, but the rebuild procedure has failed twice. The errors I got this time were: Can't create Snapshot, error -1001 ( unknown Windows OS error) Can't save Catalog File, error -1001 ( unknown Windows OS error) Can anyone suggest what these errors might be and how I can fix them? I have an urgent requirement to restore some files but with the catalogue file broken it's not possible. Why does the catalogue file break every so often anyway? Thanks, Dan Jackson (Lead ITServices Technician).
  9. We can't actually do any backups at the moment as Retrospect reports there's no free space to back up to, so I pressed the button that pauses scheduled executions before starting the procedure. I mentioned some of the server specs in my opening post. The disk where the catalog file is stored is a 7200rpm SATA drive, and the disks in the RAID array are also all 7200rpm SATA drives. We need to get some space freed up urgently so that we can resume backing up our Mac clients. EDIT: apparently we need to recreate our backup set's catalog file. I'll try that.
  10. We have Retrospect 9.5.3 running on a Windows server with an 8TB RAID array for the backup set, and 11.5 Mac clients. Recently the backup set became full up, so we're looking at ways to remove old backups to free up space. We've tried the process described here: http://www.retrospect.com/uk/support/kb/disk-backup-set-grooming-with-retrospect_7 However this does not seem to have had any effect? It seems to be doing something - the status updates variously to "Matching Backup Set" or "Analysing Catalog File" but no space is being freed up. The server is running Windows Server 2012 R2, with a Xeon E3-1220v3 3.1GHz CPU and 16GB RAM. Can anyone suggest what we need to do differently?
