1. Same drive and loader has been used for years now. That message about being unlicensed happens every time. Not sure what it refers to honestly. Software is licensed and the whole unit was purchased new years ago. I am leaning towards the card maybe being faulty, but not sure how to test it. Maybe I am making an incorrect assumption, but if the cable was faulty, would it be able to write any data? This log wrote 266GB of data, I ran a new backup/test last night and it got through 129 Gb before kicking back the EOT marker. Both were done using the same source hard drive. Any process to go about troubleshooting?
2. This problem has surfaced again. Last time it was indeed a drive error. This time it is not. My drive just came back from manual cleaning and they did full tape tests on the drive and all passed. I have ordered new SaS cables. Any chance that this could be caused by permissions errors on the OSX drive? I have some permissions that pop up as incorrect and they will not repair. Here are the errors in my logs. + Retrospect version 8.2.0.399 Launched at 5/9/16 1:32:15 PM stucFinished: [HP|MSL G3 Series|E.72] incorrect scsiServiceResponse 0x13c8630, scsiStatus 0x13c8630 stucFinished: [0|0|1] transaction result 0x13dab90 Using this storage device was not licensed. + Normal backup using Backup Assistant - 5/9/16 1:44 PM at 5/9/16 To Media Set CSTO_LTO5_Misc_C... ****** Warning: volume "CSTO_Sound_Mix_Master" has the "Ignore ownership" setting enabled. ****** - 5/9/16 1:45:01 PM: Copying CSTO_Sound_Mix_Master Using this storage device was not licensed. 3. I recently had my HP Ultrium Gen 5 Drive serviced. I had a tape that broke while in the drive and unfortunately some of the tape medium was wrapped inside. It was repaired and tested and I recently put the drive back into the library/loader. When I run an LTO4 backup now. It only seems to transfer about 30 Gb of data to the tape before asking for another tape. This is a new tape set that I have created for the purpose of testing out the drive. I am trying to troubleshoot on my end while I wait on word back from the repair facility. I am making backup sets exactly the same as I had previously. Attached are a few SS if it helps at all. I have tried different source drives on the backup with varying file size/types. I think my next step will be to swap out the actual tape, maybe there is a slim chance that a new tape is defective. Any thoughts on what else to check?
4. Unfortunately I do not have a good config80 file. The bak seems to have been over written with the empty data. I did find that most of the catalogue files will import using the locate function. The one I was originally trying seems to be corrupt. It was also the last thing I tried backing up before I had these problems. I should be able to import all the other sets and then rebuild that catalogue file from the tape set.
5. I have stopped and restarted the engine. Still no luck. Originally, It did launch with a clean configuration, but I am not able to easily add my media set catalogue info. I am running Retro 8.2.0 (399).
6. Upon starting retrospect, it asked for my license code. After re-entering it, All of my media sets from previous backups were no longer listed in RS. I have already removed the Config80.dat and hoped it would rebuild from the Config80.bak. No luck. I have my folder with all the different catalogue files in it still. I tried to add a set back using the locate option but when I click on the .rbc file it does nothing. Is there a way to rebuild my config80 file without having to go through every tape set individually and rebuilding from the set?
7. So if the bus is just a different plug on the SCSI card, then yes I (as I stated above) have tried a different bus as well as a different card.
8. Is there a reason that you are running a version of Retrospect that is almost four years old? [color:blue]We try to stay at at the same version for a particluar set, in this case LTO2 for as long as we can for consistency. What version of Retrospect Driver Update ("RDU") are you running? [color:blue]I updated it to Driver Update Version 6.6.101 It appears that you have five SCSI busses, correct? (two on each ATTO UL3D, one on the ATTO Express PCI Plus). [color:blue]I think that's just the way I copied/pasted the system profiler. Here is the PCI/AGP Card info. ATTO ExpressPCI UL3D: Name: ATTO,ExpressPCIProUL3D Type: scsi-2 Bus: PCI Slot: SLOT-3 Vendor ID: 0x1000 Device ID: 0x0020 Subsystem Vendor ID: 0x117c Subsystem ID: 0x0007 ROM Revision: 1.6.6f0 Revision ID: 0x0001 ATTO ExpressPCI UL3D: Name: ATTO,ExpressPCIProUL3D Type: scsi-2 Bus: PCI Slot: SLOT-3 Vendor ID: 0x1000 Device ID: 0x0020 Subsystem Vendor ID: 0x117c Subsystem ID: 0x0007 ROM Revision: 1.6.6f0 Revision ID: 0x0001 ATTO ExpressPCI UL3D: Name: ATTO,ExpressPCIProUL3D Type: scsi-2 Bus: PCI Slot: SLOT-5 Vendor ID: 0x1000 Device ID: 0x0020 Subsystem Vendor ID: 0x117c Subsystem ID: 0x8007 ROM Revision: 1.6.6f0 Revision ID: 0x0001 ATTO ExpressPCI UL3D: Name: ATTO,ExpressPCIProUL3D Type: scsi-2 Bus: PCI Slot: SLOT-5 Vendor ID: 0x1000 Device ID: 0x0020 Subsystem Vendor ID: 0x117c Subsystem ID: 0x8007 ROM Revision: 1.6.6f0 Revision ID: 0x0001 ATY,RV250: Type: display Bus: AGP Slot: SLOT-1 VRAM (Total): 64 MB Vendor: ATI (0x1002) Device ID: 0x4966 Revision ID: 0x0001 ROM Revision: 113-99702-127 Display: Type: display Display Type: CRT VRAM (In Use): 64 MB Resolution: 1024 x 768 @ 75 Hz Depth: 32-bit Color Main Display: Yes Mirror: Off Online: Yes ATY,Pheonix_B: Status: No display connected Display: Type: display Display Type: CRT VRAM (In Use): 64 MB Resolution: 1024 x 768 @ 75 Hz Depth: 32-bit Color Main Display: Yes Mirror: Off Online: Yes ATY,Pheonix_B: Status: No display connected And the SCSI info. You should see something like the following: Code: [color:blue]I took out this info, no need to duplicate in the reply. Where is the LTO2? When you sent it for cleaning and then reinstalled it, did you put it back on the same SCSI bus? Have you tried it on a different SCSI bus? [color:blue]I have the LTO2 now. I admit I don't know SCSI terminology that well. I changed the SCSI ID on the LTO2. I don't see where to change the bus in the ATTO Configuration Tool. What does ATTO's configuration tool show? That should let you poke about on the SCSI busses. [color:blue]It shows the LTO2 as Bus: 2 Target: 4 LUN: 0. I'm not sure how to change the bus on the card if that's what you are asking. Is there a reason that your two ATTO UL3D cards have different firmware revisions? [color:blue]They are now updated and the same firmware version 1.6.6f0. What ATTO drivers/versions do you have installed as kexts? [color:blue]I'm not sure what you are asking here. In the "Basic Info" on the ATTO configuration tool it says driver version 3.2.1. Not sure if this answers your question. Doesn't Certance have diagnostics? Most vendors do. [color:blue]That was the first question in my post. I can't find any diagnostic software for the Mac anywhere. They have it for Windows and Linux but not Mac.
9. I thought I did answer your question when I said I changed the SCSI ID. I did one backup with the same ID and it went almost to the end of comparing and then changed the ID and it went about 1/3 of the way into coping. Is there a question I'm missing or misinterpreting?
10. Sorry it took a while to get back. I got the drive back and used one of the tapes the repair company sent to see if it was my media and it went through till almost the end of comparing and gave the 206 error. I then changed the SCSI ID and started a new back up with new drive and new media. It gave me the 206 error before it could finish copying. Sigh.
11. Good point... Both the Superloader 3 and Retrospect see the tape and the barcode number if I tell the superloader to put the tape in a slot and then make it do an inventory. So then I did a test backup making Retrospect load from the magazine instead of just putting the tape in the mailslot and it now sees the barcode. Yay! I'll play with it a bit to see what needs to be done for future reference. Thank you very much for your help!!
12. Thanks, I did that (copied the config file on another drive and delted that one) and restarted. Did a small backup to a new tape with a new label. This time it doesn't give any barcode info in the "Members" tab.
13. I haven't done this. Remove as in delete or remove as in place in another folder temporarliy?
14. I am using a Quantum Superloader 3 with MacPro 10.4.9 and Retrospect 6.1.136 with driver 6.1.10.100. Previous backups were using the barcode lables that came with the drive and were named MJR725L3 etc.. and Retrospect read them and cataloged them fine. Going to "Configure" backup sets I could go to the "Members" tab and see what tape corresponded to what barcode. I used up the barcode lables that came with the drive and purchased Quantum part # 1700-003 from Macmall (Labeled Quantum part # 3-02646-02 on the package) and Retrospect is not cataloging the barcodes anymore. Instead they are all getting the same barcode number left over from the original batch. Just wondering if anyone else had this issue or if there is a solution other than just trying other lables. Thanks.
15. Thanks for the reply, I updated the firmware so both cards were the latest, and installed the latest Driver Update. Still have the -206 problem. Certance was bought by Quantum and doesn't have a diagnostic program for Mac as far as I can tell. I copied and pasted from within System Profiler so I probably just didn't copy everything, that's why you don't see all the busses. This system has been setup for several years and I've been using it for the last few, but this is the first problems we have had like this. I tried switching out SCSI cards, cables, busses, but still got the -206 error. I shipped the drive back to the repair shop, hopefully they will find the problem.
