  1. Ok...I have been waiting since I was using Windows XP for the unattended (automatic) backup feature to work again. As far as I can tell it still doesn't and I can't find anything in the recent posts in the forums on this topic. I have several backup scripts scheduled, but when I launch retrospect after using the computer for several nights during which backups should have been running, there are no backups logged. The last time I remember this working was in Win XP. I am running Windows 10 Pro and Retrospect 10.5.0.110. To get my scheduled backups to run I have to login and manually launch Retrospect. The screen capture of the History window shows no backup activity for 4-6 Feb when the PC was used each of those days. In the Preferences/Startup menu I have the following options selected: Startup: Enable Retrospect Launcher service Automatically launch Retrospect Security: Always run Retrospect as the specified user (I have a separate Admin account for Retrospect to use). I pay good money for this software. Why do I STILL have to launch it manually? Frustrated.
  2. I am beginning to believe that the issues I have been having may be due to my router. When I run backups using a cross-over cable between the two computers, or an old router I had lying around; the backup completes with no errors. With the problematic router between the two computers the backups occasionally complete ok, but usually have the errors. Time for a new router when finances permit, it seems to work fine for everything else.

  4. Ok, I tried disabling the Symantec Endpoint Protection software (AV and Firewall) and got the same on 3 errors in a successful backup after 4 previous failed backup attempts. I then reran the backup script one last time and it worked fine (no errors). I checked the Windows application error logs on the backup (host) and client computers and the client had this error that I hadn't seen before. The error also occurred during the final good backup. 5. Yes, there is nothing that explains the three errors in the event logs. The computer seems to operate just fine.
  6. Scillonian, I have used both wireless and wired connections and get the same three errors both ways. Yes, I agree that wireless connections are problematic. However, I get the same errors EVERY TIME with the wired connection too. Seems strange that network connectivity breaks down for the COM+ Class Registration database, WMI Repository, and registry during every backup of the operating system. There seems to be something else at work here so I don't think the error message is correct. I even disable the Instant Scan feature on the client, so I don't think it is a factor here.
  7. I have been getting the following three errors every time I try to backup my wife's laptop (client). Her computer is running Win 8.1 32, and my backup computer is running Win 8.1 64. I am using Retrospect 8.1.0 (209). 1) Any suggestions on how to fix this? I don't get the errors on my backup computer when it backs up the OS. I don't believe the error 519 as this happens EVERY single time. 2) Why doesn't the Instant Scan work? + Normal backup using Janice OS at 9/26/2014 3:59 PM To Backup Set My Book 3TB - 1... - 9/26/2014 3:59:22 PM: Copying Janice (C:) on Janice_Laptop T-15: SetScanInfoInUse: Isa info file version too old Unable to use Instant Scan Can't back up COM+ Class Registration database, error -519 ( network communication failed) Can't back up WMI Repository, error -519 ( network communication failed) Can't back up registry, error -519 ( network communication failed) 9/26/2014 4:11:34 PM: Snapshot stored, 58.2 MB 9/26/2014 4:11:56 PM: 3 execution errors Completed: 1213 files, 10.3 GB Performance: 2115.9 MB/minute Duration: 00:12:34 (00:07:34 idle/loading/preparing) - 9/26/2014 4:11:59 PM: Verifying My Book 3TB - 1 9/26/2014 4:13:52 PM: Execution completed successfully Completed: 1418 files, 10.4 GB Performance: 5844.5 MB/minute Duration: 00:01:53 (00:00:03 idle/loading/preparing)
  8. Thanks for the reply... Yes I checked my power settings. The laptop is set up not to go to sleep, I also changed the HD from sleeping after 999 minutes (16 hours) to never. The latest change I made was to change the NIC Jumbo Packet setting to 9014 on the host PC and laptop. When I did that the backup completed successfully. However, it may have been that after 6 attempts I finally whittled the file queue down to something small enough to be completed. I will update my post if it keeps working in the future. I have checked to see if there is a newer driver for the laptop's NIC. Unfortunately, it is an older machine (HP 9000dv) with an Intel NIC that is no longer supported by Intel.
  9. I have been messing with Error 519 for awhile now. Tried WiFi and Ethernet (multiple ports on router and switch). I just tried implementing the no-sleep option for the HD (advanced power management, delete time to sleep and it will become Never). I had it set to 999 before. Anyway, got this error which is strange... + Normal backup using Janice-Laptop at 9/5/2014 1:28 PM To Backup Set My Book 3TB - 1... - 9/5/2014 1:28:40 PM: Copying Janice (C:) on Janice_Laptop Can't back up COM+ Class Registration database, error -519 ( network communication failed) Can't back up WMI Repository, error -519 ( network communication failed) Can't back up registry, error -519 ( network communication failed) 9/5/2014 1:41:32 PM: Snapshot stored, 39.5 MB 9/5/2014 1:41:45 PM: 3 execution errors Completed: 9021 files, 14.5 GB Performance: 1696.5 MB/minute Duration: 00:13:04 (00:04:21 idle/loading/preparing) - 9/5/2014 1:41:47 PM: Verifying My Book 3TB - 1 9/5/2014 1:44:28 PM: Execution completed successfully Completed: 11594 files, 14.6 GB Performance: 5686.1 MB/minute Duration: 00:02:41 (00:00:04 idle/loading/preparing) Previously I was getting lots of errors for SkyDrive/OneDrive which I eliminated by disabling the OneDrive feature using the Windows Group Policy Editor (used option two in this link).
  10. Ok... After disabling OneDrive using the Group Manager the VSS and Map errors are gone. Unfortunately, the backup still failed so I have more work to do. To disable the OneDrive I used "Option 2" from this article: http://www.eightforums.com/tutorials/29426-onedrive-integration-windows-8-1-enable-disable.html Here is the error that Retrospect reported: + Normal backup using Janice-Laptop at 9/5/2014 11:42 AM To Backup Set My Book 3TB - 1... - 9/5/2014 11:42:43 AM: Copying Janice (C:) on Janice_Laptop Trouble reading files, error -519 ( network communication failed) 9/5/2014 12:01:34 PM: Execution incomplete Remaining: 4234 files, 5.5 GB Completed: 5418 files, 8.5 GB Performance: 737.7 MB/minute Duration: 00:18:50 (00:07:03 idle/loading/preparing) ========================================================= The Windows Application Log reported: ========================================================= The description for Event ID 1 from source Retrospect cannot be found. Either the component that raises this event is not installed on your local computer or the installation is corrupted. You can install or repair the component on the local computer. If the event originated on another computer, the display information had to be saved with the event. The following information was included with the event: Trouble reading files, error -519 ( network communication failed) The specified resource type cannot be found in the image file ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ I have tried using the WiFi and wired network connections, as well as different ports on my router and network switch, and I still get the -519 error. It would be nice if more information or trouble shooting resources were available for this. Hopefully Retrospect and Microsoft will get OneDrive to co-exist peacefully. Actually, if Retrospect could just ignore OneDrive I would be happy.
  11. I have disabled OneDrive using the Group Policy Editor on my host and client computers. I will report back if this helped.
  12. This is on a wired connection. I get the same error using WiFi or wired connections. At one point I thought I had fixed the problem when I noted that the VolumeShadowCopy included Skydrive folders that didn't exist any longer. I deleted all of the Skydrive/Onedrive folders on the laptop and let Windows recreate them. I got at least one successful backup after that, then the problems started again. I get similar errors on my host computer, but not as many, and the backup doesn't fail. I also have a NAS that gets backed up on the LAN it never fails either. I am convinced the problem lies within Retrospect. Currently I can't get reliable backups of the laptop. The other puzzling bit, is that when I made a Selector to exclude the OneDrive folders, Retrospect still posts errors that mention the OneDrive folders. I think I will try clearing all of the contents from OneDrive and see if that has an effect. I am becoming very frustrated with Retrospect. I tried V9 and got the same errors. I have been a Retrospect customer since V4 and generally my network backups worked fine until Windows 8 was released. I am not sure exactly when the error 519 started showing up, but I expected it to get fixed with Retrospect 9. Currently I have no plan to upgrade at this time and may consider moving to another product after testing it. Acronis True Image comes to mind.
  13. I also get this "information" alert in the Windows Application Log just before Retrospect reports error 519: Fault bucket , type 0 Event Name: WPNConnectionFailure Response: Not available Cab Id: 0 Problem signature: P1: Data Reconnect P2: 8007274c P3: WNP P4: Unknown P5: Unknown P6: Unknown P7: 1 P8: 244 P9: P10: Attached files: These files may be available here: C:\Users\David\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows\WER\ReportQueue\NonCritical_Data Reconnect_72db9f8668163439ad3beba7339ee3ca74f1f91_00000000_146e571c Analysis symbol: Rechecking for solution: 0 Report Id: adde2745-2fb1-11e4-bec8-e0b9a5f30be9 Report Status: 4196
  14. Created a Selector option to exclude "SkyDrive" and "OneDrive" folders, but it appears Retrospect is still trying to back them up. 15. I tried V9 but didn't buy the upgrade because these errors still happen. Backups of a client laptop consistently fail because of the OneDrive/Skydrive errors. I was really hoping these would be fixed, as it stands I can't reliably backup the laptop which renders Retrospect fairly useless! I am going to try running a backup with a Selector that will exclude folders and subfolders with the names "OneDrive" or "SkyDrive" in them.
