Retrospect 5.0.238 & Mac OS 9.2.2 Firewire Drives?

Recommended Posts

Looks like it's been awhile since any activity here. There have been quite a few advancements in drives of late and I need a solution to replace my deceased LaCie AIT Tape drive.

Will Retro 5.0.238 recognize any of the newer USB2.0 / Firewire drives such as the LaCie Little Disk or the Rugged Disk?

Thanks for any help. OSX is not an option in my office environment. I'm backing up other Mac clients as well.

It's not a Retrospect issue. If the disk appears to the OS, it will work. You'd have to investigate with the Apple specs. Not sure USB 2.0 was around on any hardware that will boot Mac OS 9.2.2, so you will, at best, get USB 1.0 speed if the OS can see the disk.

For tape drives, though, it's a different issue, and Retrospect support is required for the drive.

Gosh, it's been years since I booted Mac OS 9.2.2.

Yeah, I've got OS 9 and a PC on my desk, OS 9, X, and Vista at home. Too many changes would have to be made to upgrade from OS 9 here to be truly practical. I don't have USB 2.0 here, interested in the Firewire side for transfers.

Thanks for the reply. It does work fine, even to a thumb drive. Where I was getting confused was to not save the backup set to the Backup Sets folder in Retrospect Folder (default), rather save the backup set file on the volume/drive I wanted to use as the backup destination. Now it all comes clear...

Gonna grab a couple of Firewire drives to rotate weekly backups.
