How to specify the selector to use for block-level options

The documentation says that a selector is used to determine which files to back up at block level. It suggests that, if the default is not desirable, we should elect to use a different selector (such as "All Files Except Cache Files")

It does not say how this choice is made. Looking at the options for a script (which is where "block level" is turned on or off), I cannot see anywhere that I can enter the selector to use.

How do I ask a particular script to use a different selector for this?

As I understand it there is a selector called Block Level Filter that is used for the block level part of the backup. This selector is used automatically by Retrospect in addition to the normal selector when block level is enabled. (I use custom selectors for my various backups and Retrospect automatically uses the block level one.)

The Block Level Filter selector can be edited to add or remove file types for exclusion from block level backup. (The predefined file types in the selector are not suitable for block level backup due to their content and how changes are written to them.) The minimum file size specified in the selector is apparently set for optimisation of restore performance. (The more files with blocks that exist the more complex the restore will be and the longer it will take.)

After 30 block level backups are made of a file a full backup will be made of the file. Also if it is more than 31 days since the last backup of the file, block level or otherwise, a full backup will be made. (These parameters are not shown in the UI.)

Ah - so you can't set the "is block level on or off" filter in a granular way - you have to edit the special selector, and that effects the whole application.

The documentation is worded to suggest you can pick a different filter to use (as opposed to saying you can alter that special filter).
