I see this message several times when checking the log after a backup with thorough verification. Other messages like "different data size" make sense, but I'm not sure about "didn't compare." If it means Retrospect didn't compare the original file with the version in the media set, why would it skip a file during the thorough verification? It means that the file size hasn't changed, but the contents has changed anyway. This usually happens when the file is some kind of internally indexed file, such as a database file. According to your explanation, the files were not skipped. I was incorrectly guessing that Retrospect didn't perform the comparison (verification) for the files that were marked, "didn't compare." Perhaps Roxio should change the "didn't compare" report to read, "different contents" or "contents changed" because "didn't compare" is ambiguous. It could be interpreted to mean "[Retrospect] didn't compare [the backup file to the original]," or "[the contents of the file] didn't compare," where "compare" means "match." Thanks again.
