Event log error message from VSS during backup

When I do a scheduled backup, I get ERROR messages in my Windows event log. Last night, one backup job caused 15 of these messages:

[7704] VSS

Type: ERROR

Computer: OWL

Time: 2005-01-24 4:00:31 AM ID: 12289

Volume Shadow Copy Service error: Unexpected error GetVolumeNameForVolumeMountPo

intW( \\?\Volume{000821f6-6aa9-11d9-b0d2-0007e9877fce}\, ...). hr = 0x80070003.

I am using Windows XP Pro, service pack 2, all patches applied from windowsupdate.com. I am running the lastest available version of Retrospect Pro, with the latest driver file.

Do I have a problem?

I was going to post about this one myself. I never got these errors with 6.5, but get one at the start of each scheduled backup now that I am using 7.0. I was in the middle of trialing 6.5 when 7.0 was released - so I upgraded my trial. I don't know if this not being a fully licensed copy yet has anything to do with it. I'm running Windows XP Professional SP2, fully patched (until next week....) I do not see more than one instance of the error, as others have posted. I simply get a single entry in the Application Event Log at the start of each and every scheduled backup. There are no corresponding errors or warnings listed in Retrospect on the History tab, the Events tab, or in the Operations log.

Here's the error from my computer:

If this event appeared in the Application log in the "Information" or "Warning" categories, I might not be as concerned. However, it is logged as an "Error" so I would very much like to get it cleared up ASAP. I'd really like to see a response from Dantz Tech Support on this one.....

Hi

If Retrospect is not logging an error in the Retrospect log the backups are completing sucessfully.

Its hard to say about the VSC errors. There has been a lot of strangeness there all around. Some users report that applying updates from Microsoft can break the VSC service completely. Others say that the Symantec firewall can also cause problems.

Have you applied any updates other than Retrospect lately?
